What Grinds My Gears?

Surprise and Fear!

You know what really grinds my gears?

When people don't let the main character be surprised or scared.

I'm not talking about being scared by a bug or whatever their quirky fear is. I'm talking afraid like they want to run away scared, like they're about to pee their pants scared.

The main character always has to be all knowing about everything. They can never learn something new that makes them question their whole existence or at the very least make them think a little bit.

They always have to surprise everybody with there knowledge because they're either omniscient or

"They Just Do."

Also whenever inserts ACTUALLY run into something they don't understand, they can never freak out or not know what to do or make a mistake. They always have to be brave and calm, and make the right choices.

Also...

In context of the story, that paragraph was written entirely unironically.

(Spoiler Alert: Jason is the most entertaining part of the story.)

Elaborating on inserts always suprising others with their knowledge, let's take a look at a small look at one of those...

"Fan of the show gets transported into the world of the show" fanfics.

(Yes. I got into transformers fics. No. I don't know how.)

They always have to show off on how much they know about the characters, dropping every secret they know about the characters and the plot. Because for some reason, people think that keeping the fact that the insert is from another world isn't an interesting plot.

This transformers fic also molds into what I hate about inserts not being afraid.

(Note: The insert has no powers during this example.)

YOUR FAMILY MEMBER IS LITERALLY IN THE HANDS OF A GIANT ROBOT THAT HAS NO PROBLEMS KILLING PEOPLE! ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, IN ANY POSSIBLE VERSION OF THIS SCENARIO IS A FUCKING HUMAN GONNA BE DEMANDING SHIT FROM A DECEPTICON!

I'm not asking for the insert to piss themselves, except that I should since it's the least eye rolling thing for them to do. But anything's better than A FUCKING HUMAN talking down to a decepticon and expecting me to do anything but roll my eyes.

Those fucking examples are the equivalent to

(God I hate the last two movies.)

The basic gist is, I'm not asking for the insert to piss themselves everytime something scary or suprising happens. I'm not asking for over the top reactions either.
