She was in the back of a car. Her head hurt and her body felt sore. It was dark so she couldn't tell where she was going but she knew that she needed to get out now. It was urgent. She opened her eyes after realizing that she wasn't restrained. That's when she realized she wasn't alone.
To her right was her younger sister. To the left was Mike but she wouldn't notice him until a little later. Her sister appeared to be asleep. So naturally she tried to wake her up. She could save her sister this time. She just needed for her to wake up. She kept whispering her name, shaking her sister's arm when she heard a groan from behind her.
She turned to see Mike. His shirt was covered in blood at his shoulder and she immediately moved so she could put pressure on the wound. "Bex?" He whispered, still out of it.
"I'm here. Stay with me. We're gonna get out of this, okay? Hailey too."
At the mention of her sister's name, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to see her sister looking at her but she now looked more like a zombie. Her cheeks were sunken in, parts of her flesh were missing and her eyes were a milky color glazed over making them completely white. "It's too late, Bex."
That's when she noticed the car, well more accurately van, stopped. The doors opened and there was the man she had just put away. The man who had killed her sister and countless others. He just sneered at her. "I thought I'd bring someone else along with me this time." The killer said before stepping to the side to reveal Red Wheatus.
The senator raised a gun and shot both Hailey and Mike despite Bex's screams for him to stop. "You're just never quick enough." He said before pointing the gun at her.
She woke with a scream, shooting up to sit just as she felt the sting of the bullet hit her. She flinched when she felt Mike's hand on her shoulder but when he spoke she relaxed and curled up against him. She honestly didn't realize that she was crying until he wiped the tears away.
"I'm sorry I woke you. I had hoped that I had gotten past things dream free this go around."
He rubbed comforting circles against her back. "Don't worry about it. Do you wanna talk about it?"
"Not particularly." She had this superstition about talking about dreams before eating breakfast. It was an old wives tale about how the dream would come true if it was spoken about before eating. She definitely wasn't trying to have this one come true.
He nodded, moving his hand up to comb through her hair. "We don't have to."
"I'll tell you after breakfast." She promised before looking up at him. She needed to see for herself if he was really okay.
He chuckled softly, nodding. He pressed a kiss to her forehead before resting his against hers as she gingerly ran her hand over the bandage. There wasn't any blood coming through which allowed her to breathe out a sigh of relief.
"They stitched me up pretty good. Said I probably wouldn't even scar." He whispered as he watched her closely. She honestly didn't wake him up. He had already been awake thanks to his own dream but he didn't want to worry her even more. Sure this wasn't his first stabbing but it still brought up some not so pleasant memories his mind apparently wanted to conjure up. He blamed his nervousness about Paige finding him for the memories making their way back to his dreams too.
When she didn't say anything, he left a lingering kiss to the corner of her mouth. She turned to face him properly before kissing him with such desperation. It took him a moment to register before he was pulling her close and returning the kiss. She left one hand on his cheek from where she had his face in between both of her hands while her other hand tangled into his hair. His uninjured arm was wrapped around her waist, bunching up the fabric of his shirt she was wearing he was holding onto her so tightly. He wanted to bring up his other arm to cup her face so they could lay back down before he rolled on top of her but the sling restricted him. His groan of frustration turned into a wince of pain and that halted everything.
Bex pulled away and before she could even apologize, he gave her a sweet kiss. "Don't even worry about it." He was just as relieved that she was by his side as she seemed to be about him.
"That just didn't seem very taking things slow." She still said.
"No, it felt just right." He smiled at her.
That earned him a smile which made his grow. He pressed a kiss to her temple before tugging her down with him to get settled into bed once more. "If it happens again, don't be afraid to wake me up but I'll do my best to keep them away."
"I don't know what I did to deserve you. Thank you, Mike. I hope sweet dreams find you."
They didn't wake again until his alarm went off. The couple groaned and buried under the covers together and yet the alarm kept blaring with no regard to what they were willing it to do. Mike pulled away slowly so he could turn it off. He laid back down with a soft huff, careful of his shoulder, before turning to face Bex.
"Good morning, babe." He whispered as he tucked some of her hair back behind her ear.
Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled at him before giving him a sweet kiss. "I think I can get used to this."
"Me too." It was then that they heard Bex's alarm going off from her purse. She was actually surprised her phone still had some battery life. She made the mental note to put it on the charger as soon as she got to the office. "Sounds like we've got to get up."
"Sounds like it." He leaned in once more and kissed her. They stayed like that, kissing languidly, until her alarm sounded once more. "I'll make breakfast this go around." He smiled at her before they got out of bed.
He wanted to make omelettes but with his arm stuck in a sling he wasn't too confident with his one handed cooking abilities so it was scrambled eggs and toast. While they were eating, he was trying to figure out how to approach the subject of her dream last night. He then began to wonder if she had been suffering silently ever since she came back from Kansas City.
"I know you said not to worry about it but I do wanna apologize for waking you up. I haven't had a dream like that in awhile." She said once she finished eating.
Looked like he didn't need to bring it up after all. "It's okay, honest. I take it they don't happen all that often then?"
She shook her head. "They happened more in the beginning before I joined organized crime I was actually set with the human trafficking team. For whatever reason no matter what I was working on it reminded me of my sister. And the first time I was brought on to help solve my sister's case?" She shook her head. "Spencer had to convince the director of the unit at the time to let me stay on."
Mike reached over and took her hand in his and gave it a squeeze.
"I'm actually surprised since this is the first dream after Kansas City."
"Do you want to tell me about it now?"
She slowly nodded. "I was in the back of a van and you and my sister were with me. Hailey had turned zombie-like while I was trying to stop your shoulder from bleeding, telling me that I was too late. Then her killer opened the trunk and moved to the side so Red could step forward. Then Red shot us all telling me how I'm always slow."
He moved around the kitchen island and brought her in for a hug. "You're safe. I'm safe and Red's not going to get either one of us."
"You sure?"
"I am. He's wanted me by his side since the very beginning of all this. If you want I'm sure I could even talk him into having you around all day so you can help me out." He raised his injured arm to emphasize his offer.
"I need to go home to change but I'll be in right after."
"Sounds like a plan." He kissed her before pulling away fully. "There's still back and forth about the budget but if I'm not in my office when you get there Gary can show you where the committee room is." He told her as he placed their dishes in the sink. He'd get to them later.
Bex nodded as she stood. When she returned from putting on the pants Mike had offered her last night, she kissed his cheek. "I'll bring these back." She promised as she put on her heels.
"They look better on you anyway." He smirked before returning the kiss.
Once the door closed behind her, he let out a sigh. It was time for him to get ready. He really hoped that this was ending soon because he was pretty sure he could talk Bex going on some sort of vacation with him. They desperately needed it.
