Moving Slow

The rest of the day went by in a blur. He was honestly surprised he even made it to the brownstone the Bureau had put him up in. He didn't even remember texting Bex to let her know that it had been a long day and that he would call her tomorrow. Alien bugs out to destroy the human race and his abusive ex back in close proximity to him was a lot to take in, in one day.

He didn't remember texting her but he definitely received a response, multiple in fact.

Hope you're okay. I know today was overwhelming.

I'll call you when I go to bed because I would like to hear your voice if possible.

If not it's my turn to treat you for breakfast. I know of the best spot for waffles. So I'll see you in the morning.

He smiled at them and went back to making himself a sandwich. He knew he needed to eat something. As he was eating, he read through the messages again. He could just picture the worry written on her face and he wanted nothing more than to kiss the wrinkle between her eyebrows away. He had a lot to tell her and he would but right now he just wished he could hold her in his arms and not think about the case or about life outside of them and their future.

Mike nearly picked up his phone to call her but he had told her that he wanted to go slow so he was sure him asking her to come over and even stay the night would not look like him keeping to his own boundaries. So he finished his dinner, did a small work out, and took a shower before climbing into bed.

He wasn't sure how long he had been staring at his ceiling fan but when he looked over at his clock and saw that it was a little past 2:30, he silently groaned, accepting that sleep would elude him. Turning back to the ceiling fan, he stared a little while longer until his ears started picking up on every little sound. It was then when he noticed the opening behind an electrical outlet and grew scared that the bugs he had been investigating would crawl through. Just as the thought crossed through his mind his phone started ringing, startling him. Fear sent a chill down his spine as he thought the worst: Paige had found him and was reaching out.

Slowly bringing the phone to him so he could decline the call, he noticed that it was actually Bex calling instead of an unknown number. He let out a sigh of relief before answering. "Hey."

He must have sounded like he had just woken up because she was soon apologizing. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I just realized the time. Did I wake you?"

"No, no, it's fine. I, uh, actually haven't gone to sleep at all." He confessed.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" She asked.

"Not particularly." He then let out another sigh. "Can I ask you a question and you can totally say no."

"Of course. What is it Mike?"

"Do you think you could come over? Stay the night? I know I said I wanted to take things slow and I swear this is not me trying to get you to do anything..."

"Mike, stop. It's okay." She cut him off. "I'll be right over."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I'm slipping on my shoes right now. I'll see you soon okay?" Once her shoes were on, she grabbed her keys and wallet and made her way out of the door.

"I gave you the spare key, right?"

"Sure did. You want me to stay on the line?" He was starting to really worry her.

"No, I'll see you when you get here."

It seemed like she was there not even two seconds after he had hung up even though he knew she was at least twenty minutes from where he was staying. She slid behind him and immediately wrapped her arms around him. He froze momentarily but when he saw that it was Bex, he relaxed. "Seriously, I'm not trying to do anything." He told her.
