The One Where They Have Detention.
Kayla was almost late for her detention with Umbridge the following day. She had gotten distracted by Benjamin, who was rambling about something in the Slytherin common room. Kayla had been with Miles, so she missed the first bit of the speech and didn't know what had set Benjamin off. He was known for getting distracted by different conversation topics and stories whenever he was talking.
It was Draco who reminded Kayla of her detention. He knew about it since he made the mistake of asking why Kayla looked so annoyed. He then received a long rant about Umbridge, filled with foul language, from his sister.
Kayla made her way to Umbridge's office at five to seven, which nothing in her possession but her wand. She had debated leaving it behind her, since she didn't want to accidently curse the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Just the thought of seeing Umbridge again made Kayla feel irritated; seeing that toad-like face over seven times a week was already hard enough.
Kayla suspected she reached Umbridge's office at exactly seven, or perhaps a minute or two later. She was surprised to see someone already waiting outside the professor's office.
"I was thinking you weren't going to show up," the boy said, beginning a light conversation. His red hair and abundance of freckles made Kayla suspect he was one of the Weasley twins. She glanced at his Gryffindor robes which seemed to be a tad too small. Okay, he definitely was a Weasley.
"I wouldn't be surprised if she actually murdered me if I skipped," Kayla said which made the Weasley chuckle. Kayla took in his appearance, trying to figure out which of the twins she was speaking to. She eventually sighed and gave up. "This may be impolite, but I don't really care. Which one are you?"
The boy laughed and shook his head. "I'm Fred and I must say, I didn't expect us to be on first name bases."
Kayla scoffed. "Trust me Weasley, we are not on first name bases."
Before Fred could reply, the door to Umbridge's office swung open and out walked Harry Potter. The fifth year greeted Fred warmly but settled on a cold glare for Kayla. Kayla knew Harry didn't get along with her brother, so she expected he also hated her by default. She didn't care, Harry didn't seem like a very nice person anyway.
"Come in," Umbridge ordered, waving Fred and Kayla into her office. They complied, and Kayla felt nauseous as she looked around the room.
She had never seen anything like it. Umbridge had decorated her office in a way that matched her personality so much; obnoxious and headache-causing. Kayla could only see pink, so Fred's hair clashed horribly with his surroundings. Moving pictures of cats hung on the walls and the amount of movement they made hurt Kayla's eyes. Lacing table cloths covered every surface, including Umbridge's desk which had a chair on each side.
With a wave of her stubby wand, Umbridge summoned another chair out of thin air and shoved it next to the one that was already there. Kayla frowned at how close her and Fred would have to sit.
"Sit," Umbridge smiled. "You will be doing lines."
Lines? Kayla had expected much worse but didn't comment on it incase Umbridge decided the cruciatus curse was a more suitable punishment.
Fred and Kayla sat down, the latter leaning as far as she could to her left without making it obvious. Umbridge placed an extra quill in front of Kayla and clasped her hands together, grinning.
"We've no ink," Fred stated which made Umbridge chuckle.
"You'll find you won't need ink with these quills," the professor replied.
