The One With The Reformed Friendship.

Heartbreak was something Kayla had never experienced. She'd heard about it from friends, read about it in books, but she never properly knew how it really felt.

Until now.

Kayla hadn't loved Miles, how could she? With his pressurising ways and hatred towards people who didn't deserve it. But losing someone you've spent the past while with stings, a bloody lot. When Kayla arrived home to Malfoy Manor for the Christmas break, she went straight to her room and stayed there, only emerging for meals.

Christmas Day came and went, with the Christmas cheer lifting Kayla's mood slightly. She'd received lovely presents from her friends; Lee and the twins even sent her a couple bags of instant darkness powder. But when Kayla received an emerald necklace from Miles, she had to excuse herself before she burst into tears in the living room.

On the day after St. Stephen's day, while Kayla was just coming out of a sulking mood, a knock sounded on her bedroom door. Kayla had moved from under her covers just before her mother entered her bedroom.

"Kayla," Narcissa Malfoy smiled, entering the room and closing the door behind her. The middle aged woman was wearing robes of light blue, suiting her blonde-brown hair. While Draco's genes were purely Malfoy, Kayla believed she was more like the Black family; with brown hair and dark eyes.

"Hi mum," Kayla smiled back, but her shaking voice betrayed her. Narcissa gave a single nod and sat down on the bed.

"Draco told me," Narcissa whispered, wrapping an arm around Kayla's shoulders. "I'm very sorry, Darling."

Kayla was about to ask how Draco found out about Miles cheating, but the answer came to her on its own. Blaise Zabini, Jade's brother, must have told him. Kayla hoped Blaise was the only person Jade had told without her permission.

When Kayla didn't speak, Narcissa continued. "I know how it feels, Kayla. It hurts but you'll get through it-"

"How do you know?" Kayla said, a lot harsher than she meant to. "You met father while you were at Hogwarts. You've been together ever since."

"You act like your father was the only one I've ever been with," Narcissa chuckled, understanding Kayla's sour mood was unintentional. "And you haven't graduated yet. You could still find someone at Hogwarts, like I did."

Kayla scoffed. "I don't think I'll be finding anyone within the next couple months."

Narcissa smiled. "You're a beautiful girl, Kayla. You never know."

Kayla hugged her mother and was glad when the conversation changed. Romance was not something she wanted to think about at the moment.

They were soon interrupted by Draco bursting into the room, having seemingly forgotten how to knock. "You've a visitor," he said to Kayla before leaving. Kayla and Narcissa shared a look before silently ending their conversation. Kayla left her bedroom, expecting the see Claire, Benjamin or Jade in the entrance hall of Malfoy Manor.

So she was very surprised to see Jane Selwyn standing there instead.

"What do you want?" Kayla sighed, making the darker haired girl jump and turn to face her.

Jane's eyes travelled down Kayla's form before smiling shyly. "How are you?"

Kayla's stomach did a somersault when she realised Jane must know about her and Miles. But how? Although Kayla hated herself for it, she suspected Jade.

"I'm fine," Kayla snapped. "Why are you here?"

Jane took a deep breath and stepped closer to Kayla. "I heard about what happened with Miles. And I wanted to make sure you're okay."

"Why wouldn't I be okay?" Kayla asked, but her voice wobbled. "It happens all the time. I'm not the first girl to be cheated on."

"That doesn't give him the excuse to," Jane argued. "What he did was awful, and it's perfectly okay not to be okay."

The fierce look in Jane's eyes brought Kayla back to their friendship in third year. One of the things that began their friendship was their similar fiery personalities and their common interests. Although they hadn't been friends for a while, Kayla could see a new similarity blossoming between them.

They'd both been hurt by Miles.

Kayla's eyes had started to water, causing her to look away from Jane. But the pale girl saw the sadness in her old friend's face and approached her.

Kayla couldn't hold the tears back as Jane hugged her. Part of the reason for her tears was Miles, but the other half was for the fact that Jane, her first ever friend in Hogwarts, was here with her, hugging her as if nothing bad had ever happened between them. She still felt the same, smelt the same and she whispered the same comforting words as she did whenever Kayla got upset in school.

Jane pulled away first and wiped away Kayla's tears with her delicate fingers. "I think we've a lot to catch up on."

"You couldn't be more right," Kayla sniffed, hugging her old-yet new-friend again.
