"This is Best of My Life and this one's for you, baby."
Lindsey paused the video with a heavy sigh. He wasn't a particularly active user of social media, but he happened to stumble upon that moment from Eagles show and he kept rewatching it, he couldn't escape it. Lindsey thought that Stevie and Don weren't speaking and there the guy was, dedicating a love song to her, while she was in attendance. A part of Lindsey was angry, in the past six months Stevie caused him a lot of heartache, he truly believed they might had had a chance this time. The other part made him feel relieved in a way. It wasn't easy, being kept in the unknown and now Stevie had clearly made her decision - she picked her husband. Lindsey couldn't be mad at her because of that. Obviously there was something still worth saving and she had every right to want that. For a second, Lindsey feared that he might start regretting filing for divorce, but he didn't, not in the slightest. Sure, Stevie had greatly influenced his decision, but after all, Lindsey did it himself. Maybe Stevie reconciling with Don was a sign that it was time to move on for good this time.
What upset Lindsey the most was the thought of not being able to see Alice. He couldn't be around Stevie right now and if he wanted to be close to Alice, he'd have to be close to Stevie and that just wasn't a possibility right now. However, in just a little over a month, Fleetwood Mac had a show scheduled, just before New Year's Eve. At the moment, Lindsey really had no idea, how he was going to be able to face her.
Meanwhile, Stevie didn't even think about Lindsey or the show that they still had to do together. She was with Don, she was happy in their little bubble they had created for themselves. Even though he kept reassuring her that things were going to be fine, one just doesn't move on so easily after everything that had recently happened. Stevie was simply glad that Don seemed no longer angry or upset, both actually, and Don couldn't be happier that she chose him. It would have been so simple to run to Lindsey, but she didn't, she chose him. Neither of the two knew, how long their bliss was going to last, but they didn't dare question it either.
"I'm so glad to be done with this tour for some time." Don said, not for the first time, since he and Stevie, along with the rest of the band, got on a flight home.
"I'm happy to have you back home." Stevie tilted her chin up for a kiss as they sat in the back of a black SUV, being driven from the airport. "I can't wait to start getting ready for Christmas."
"That's a whole month away." Don was tapping his fingers on Stevie's thigh to the beat of a song on the radio.
"Which means, I should have already gotten a tree. I'm way behind." She lay her head on his shoulder, making Don laugh. "I'm serious."
"I know you are, babe. It's nice that we will both be home for the holidays. We're in great need of some quality family time."
"Oh yes. I'm so excited that Sara's coming to stay with us for a while."
"Yeah." Don scoffed. "Sara's not coming alone though."
"Oh my God, Don, she's been married to the guy for nearly ten years." Stevie rolled her eyes, sitting up straight. "He's not as bad as you make him out to be."
"Still, she could have done so much better. Did she really have to go for the guitar player in her band? There are other men out there." Stevie kept quiet and Don caught on quickly, realizing what he'd just said. "I suppose, he's not the worst."
"Just concentrate on the good, honey. We get to spend time with Sara, we don't get to see her all that much."
"I know, I know..." Don nodded, dropping the subject at last.
The drive home didn't take that much longer. Alice was anxiously awaiting her parents' return and she squeezed them both in a tight hug the second Stevie and Don stepped through the door. They sat down to catch up, it was mostly Alice talking about that performance that everybody in the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac fandom were going on about right now.
"Oh, I almost forgot." Alice then suddenly jumped to her feet. She returned shortly, handing Stevie an envelope. "This is for you. It only has your name written on and while I was very curious, I didn't dare look inside."
With a shaky hand, Stevie reached for the envelope and gulped, glancing briefly at Don, who had a pretty good idea of who the letter was from.
