2012...not 2018

The heroes had ceased fighting and were sitting round the table watching Loki's antics - trying to work out which were illusions and where he really was . Rhodey looked defeated but carried on questioning Thor about his brothers powers.

"Has your brother done this before," he asks.

"Oh yes why of course he had, you know he once trapped me in the wine cellar for a day by using an illusion. It was very funny," starts Thor - his eyes had glazed over as he reminisced, "It ...."

"Oh will you get on with it," shouts an angered Sam, "We've listened to you go on and on about every adventure you had as a kid for the last hour. Could you please just answer the question."

It was true, you had heard every prank and mishap that Loki and Thor were involved in. There was the vase incident (basically millions of pounds of damage was done by a harmless prank Loki pulled and adolescent Thor's clumsiness), the trick throne (their father was not pleased), the invisible sword (even Heimdall was tricked) and a lot of other mischief. Childhood for them was certainly not boring.

Thor huffs a little before saying, "Yes he used to do these all the time - it was one of the easiest uses of his magic."

"Well is there anyway to tell the real him apart from these hologram thingies," butts in Scott.

"No not really, when he is really concentrating he can shift some of his matter to the illusions giving them an extra dimension. That is how he did the vase mishap," explains Thor, a hint of a smile on his lips. It is at this moment that you realise those soulful eyes are full of many secrets, many you will never know, and that he is burdened with many memories he'd rather forget.

You often got thoughts such as these. After spending a short amount of time with anyone, you could find the essence of their existence - like a blurb to their soul - it was one of your hidden talents. Sometimes it was a blessing, other times it was more of a wretched curse.

"So, he can just shift from place to place and we'd never be able to catch him," Scott gasps, his eyes widening.

"Once a thief, always a thief," T'Challa murmurs under his breath.

"No no, Scott it doesn't work like that," laughs Thor visibly amused by the Midgardian's naivety. "The majority of Loki's mass will stay with his real body - only if his apparitions interact with worldly object, such as a door, then he can shift his matter so as not to alert anybody to the fact that he is indeed an illusion."

"That's so cool," cries Peter excitedly - he just seemed like a playfully puppy in your eyes.

"So Thor, if we just go and push Loki to the ground, would his apparition disappear or would he be able to shift enough mass to stop his illusions from breaking," inquires Rhodey, he was clearly forming a plan.

"If he's concentrating hard enough, he could pick himself off the ground rather than disappearing, but it takes all his focus."

Rhodey tightly pursed lips break into a huge smile. His eyes glinted with trouble.

"I've got a plan."

He explains it. It was rather simple and elegant; it was sure to work. The Avengers would split into pairs and travel to each location that Loki is at, when they are all in place - at the same time - they would attack Loki. Overwhelming him causing the illusions to dissipate. Everyone was nodding agreeing with the plan, well that was until he said...

"Then we'll bring him in for questioning."

For the second time that day the room bursts into arguments. This time though Rhodey was having none of it.

"Will all of you just shut up and listen to what I have to say," ...silence..." Okay we bring him in for questioning but if he insists on his innocence we let him go capiche."

They all sigh and agree.

This whole time Stephen had been sitting in his chair very silently; his eyes looked like glass. Suddenly snapping his neck around to look at Rhodey he states, "I have to go back to the Sanctuary, good luck on this plan."

He starts striding towards the door, his majestic cape flowing behind him. You are pretty sure it winked at you (even though that wouldn't be possible).

"Why do you have to leave," asks Wanda.

"I...I can't see into the future, I haven't been able to since Loki arrived. He messed up the timeline. Thor..." he looks up. " It's not the Loki you remember from 2018, I think its the Loki from 2012."

He swings the door open and leaves.
