" You guys have the next two hours to finish solving all those equations so if I were you I'll get started. I'll grade them and give them back to you tomorrow after class." Miss Arenay said to us and left the classroom. Apparently only Damien, Alex and I had detention today so it was a bit awkward. Alex was seated at the other end of the class with his air pods in his ears as he solved the questions. He didnt even spare me a glance when he walked in. It was hard for me to concentrate whrn all I could think about was I wish I was cuddling with Alex right now. I miss him so much.
I looked at him for a second before looking back on my paper. After half an hour and trying many times, I realised I didn't understand the concept used in solving the equations. "Dammy?" I called out to Damien who was now concentrating on solving something on his calculator, sitting in the middle of the class whike I was at the other end. "Yeah titi?" He answered. "Could you help me out with the second part of the equations? I'm kinda stuck." I added the last part with a sheepish smile and he chuckled.
"Sure thing." He said and walked over and took a seat next to me and pulled it closer to me . He spent about 20 minutes explaining everything into detail and I spent the next 20 minutes solving them. He cross checked my work and told me I had answered everything correctly. I squealed excitedly and hugged him and he chuckled again. Seriously, he does that a lot. " Thanks so much!" I said and pulled away from the hug. "Always at your service beautiful." He responded with a smile and I blushed a little. I know me being that excited about getting a few equations correct, but I love getting equations correct... I mean , who doesn't?
I heard something snap and looked up to see Alex had snapped his pencil in half and had his jaw clenched so hard that I thought it might shatter and his lips pressed in a straight line. He glared at Damiens hand on my shoulder so hard I thought a knife woukd shoot out of his eyes and chop Damien's hand off. The expression on his face sort of scared me since I'm not used to Alex acting like that but it seemed Damien wasn't faced by this at all because he was glaring right back at Alex.
Could things get any worse?
"Got a problem, poker face?" Damien asked non chalantly and Alex gritted his teeth in annoyance and shot out of his seat. He stood hovering over Damien's desk with his jaw clenched. "What did you just call me kid?" He growled but Damien just smirked at him and relaxed in his seat. "Poker face." He said with a shrug. I better do something before this gets out of hand. "Uhm... Guys, calm down." I said genty and Alex head turned to me as he shot me a cold glare, "Stay out of this , Britt." He hissed at me and I shut up, a little taken aback by the tone he used on me. He has never spoken to me like that. What has gotten into him?
Damien's smirk turned in a scowl the moment he said that and he stood up with his fists clenched at his sides. "Do not talk to her like that!" He said in a dangerously calm voice that kind of sent chills down my spine but Alex just chuckled darkly at what he said with his arms crossed over his chest. " Or what?" He asked. "Dammy, can you please just don't argue with him." I said calmly and put an arm on his shoulder and his tensed up muscles relaxed immediately and his eyes softened when he looked at me and I smiled a little and he gave me a small nod and sat down.
I sighed in relief and turned to Alex. For a second I saw hurt flash before it was replaced with a dark blank look. "You're unbelievable." He scoffed and lok at me with disdain and walked away to his seat. Not long after Miss Arenay walked into the class and asked us to hand over the equations and that we were free to leave. I tried to talk to Alex before he left but he lashed out on me. "Alex." I gently called after him as he walked out of the class and he turned to me with an impatient look.
"Yes?" He said in annoyance. "Can we talk?" I asked hesistantly and he looked at me with a calculated gaze. "I have somewhere to be right now." He answered. "Oh." I said with disappointment laced in my voiced . "uhm how about- " He cut me off, " Look Britt I have to get going." He said and turned to walk away. "But- " He cut me off again, "Goodbye." He said and walked away. I couldn't help the tears that prickled my eyes. Why was he being like this? " What was that all about?" A voice asked and I quickly wiped my tears away and turned around to Face Damien leaning against the doorframe of the class and his bag lazily flung over one shoulder with a curios look.
I cleared my throat and looked down, "uhm.. Nothing." I said simply and he raised an eyebrow at me. "Seriously? Nothing? That's what you're going with? How about you try that again?" He said and I sighed." Can we not talk about what just happened?" I asked, hopefully he would just drop it. He looked like he was trying to get his answers by looking into my eyes and it was sorta making me uneasy cause it felt like he was looking into my souks so I averted my eyes.
He sighed," Fine, but only if you agree to go to C&C cookie house with me?" He asked like an excited little boy on a Christmas morning and I looked at him weirdly and he shrugged "What? Can't a boy love his cookies?" He asked and I laughed and shook my head. " sure... I'll go with you." I said and his eyes lit up as he pulled me out of the school excitedly and I laughed again. He might be a badass, but he was definitely a softie. I said to myself as we both got into his car and buckled up.
