Chapter 4 - Meeting You
*Pia Mia*
I wore a white dress that had white lace around the waist part and at the bottom part of the dress. It was a pretty summer dress. I paired it with gold bracelets. I had braided my hair the night before so that it could be curly tonight.
The venue for the party was the school's field house. It felt weird being here with a bunch of adults.
I walked around with my parents, meeting their friends. My cousin Rosalie isn't here so it's just me and my parents. Fun right? I looked around at how they decorated the gym. They had balloons and banners all over and there was even a long table full of snacks and drinks.
My dad suddenly stopped and I bumped into him, causing me to pay attention to what was actually going on.
I stepped from behind him and to his side. I immediately recognized what was going on. It was the family from across the street. It was him, the one with the staring problem. My parents were speaking with his and I didn't really care for what they were saying. My eyes were locked with his.
It wasn't until I heard my name that I broke the eye contact. What is with him and staring?
"This is our daughter Pia Mia."
I waved and gave a smile.
"You look just like your mother when she was your age." The lady said.
"Pia, you remember Carter and Michelle, our neighbors across the street." My dad said. He was trying to put on a brave face. He wasn't doing very good.
How could I forget?
"This is our son Austin." He didn't smile or say anything all he did was give a boyish nod in my direction. I couldn't tell if he was trying to please his father, who was standing there as stiff as a brick, or if he was actually like that.
"Well we will let you two talk." Michelle and my mom led me and Austin to the snack table. I guess to distract us from the tension between my father and his. Too late.
My mom and Michelle were chatting away like they have been best friends all these years. I didn't mind it really but my attention was focused on Austin. He was looking down at his phone. Austin. I never would have guessed his name. I stopped looking at him and looked at all the different foods they had.
"What's your name again?" I looked up quickly at the boy next to me. His voice startled me. It's the first time I've heard it and it feels nice to put a voice to the name and face.
"Pia Mia."
He chuckled.
"Like mama Mia?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes. Asshole.
"No like Pia." I snapped at him.
"Whoa my bad," He put his hands up in surrender "Pia it is."
It happened again. The staring but this time I didn't mind it. Instead I stared right into his eyes. They were a hazel color with specks of green and brown. He had beautiful eyes. I noticed his eyes traveled down to the dress I was wearing and back up to my face. He was studying my face.
Remembering that he was a "Player" I broke the silence.
"You know you have a staring problem."
"I do?" He sounded shocked but then a smirk grew on his face.
"Yeah you do. You always look at me. From across the street, I mean."
"Well I only look at you because you look at me." He said pretty confidently.
"Well I only look at you because it's where my eyes go when I look up." Okay that sounded way better and made more sense in my head.
He raised an eyebrow.
I saw my mom wave me over from across the room. My dad looked pissed, "I have to go."
Austin followed my gaze and nodded his head, "See you later." and with that he walked away.
I grabbed a brownie off of the table and took a step forward before deciding to grab two. I'm going to need these to munch on slowly so they hopefully won't try to ask too many questions.
