Chapter Four: The Sun and the Candle
Words: 860|| 5 years ago ||
As the last bell rang throughout the school, I quickly gathered my belongings as fast as I could, which isn't fast at all since I'm now on crutches.
Last week, Bakugo thought it would be funny to mess with me during gym, resulting in a broken ankle. According to the whole school, it was. Grandmother is out of town so she can't heal me, making this just a golden week for him.Watching the students flood out of the classroom, I knew I was done for. Even so, I took my bag and tried to leave the classroom but Bakugo and his friends were blocking the doorway with smug grins.
Chest rising and falling rapidly, I tried to keep my composure though, from the looks of it, I'm not doing a very good job."God, you're even more pathetic than Deku," Bakugo chuckles.
That's the green-haired kid, right? When he's not harassing me, he's after Midoriya. I envy him—I mean, at least Bakugo has a reason for hating him. It's a stupid reason but I would do anything for Bakugo to just tell me what he hates about me.
He then took one of my crutches, forcing me to lean on the other one.As I was about to grab it from him, he passed it to his friend, who threw it to the boy across from him until it turned into a sick game of monkey in the middle.
"Stop!" I pleaded though my begging was drowned out by their collective laughter.Bakugo tauntingly held up my crutch and dangled it above me like a dog toy. Attempting to grab it, I missed, causing me to hold onto Bakugo while trying to reach for it. Bakugo tried to push me off but I clenched the front of his shirt to keep my balance.
"I think she likes you," one of his friends joked, nudging the other.
Bakugo growled and pushed me hard against the wall, blasting a round of fire towards my stomach. I didn't even feel it at first, only a slight tingling sensation. Only when I began falling to the ground did I feel like my entire body is engulfed in flames.
The sounds of blood dripping from my mouth and ringing in my ears acts as a metronome, keeping me focused enough to not fall into the temptation of passing out.I closed my eyes and drowned out any outside noise besides the blood dripping onto the floor. My quirk is that I can convert sound into force. I never fully used it before as doctors said that my body couldn't handle even 1% of it. It wasn't really a matter of my body frame but rather that it's always at 100%. I can feel it taking over as a flight or fight response and I'm too weak to do anything about it.
I gradually opened my eyes where a white light surrounded me, similar to an aura, which grew brighter as the sound of the blood drops became louder. I feel my body going numb and my consciousness slipping. The white light then exploded, sending Bakugo and the others flying against the wall, along with the desks and some of the tiles from the floor.
I then drifted out of consciousness.

I stared outside the hospital window, watching the snow slowly fall onto the busy streets. For the last four months, I've either been people watching or watching the news, neither options I really care for.
From what I remember the doctor telling me, I went into shock for six weeks. I was just transferred out of the ICU a few days ago. Grandmother said a lot of families came to see me and helped pay for my long term prescriptions. Bakugo's family paid for my entire hospital stay, including all of the tests, food, and medications I was given. Grandmother didn't tell me the amount but I think that just speaks for itself of how expensive it was.
A knock emerged from the door and was slowly opened by a nurse. She quietly slipped in and gave me a glistening smile.
"You have a visitor," the nurse beamed as she referred back to her clipboard, "The 'Bakugo' family."
They've sent me a music box, which plays "Summer" by Joe Hisaishi, with a handwritten apology from Bakugo, which I doubt is sincere, but I didn't actually expect them to come.
"I'll speak to them outside," grandmother sternly says, following the nurse out to the hallway.
As the door was shut, I quickly got out of bed and cracked the door open to see grandmother approach Bakugo's parents and Bakugo. However, they're too out of earshot to hear what they're saying.
Bakugo's mom forced Bakugo's head down into a bow and, from the looks of it, started apologizing to grandmother. When Bakugo's eyes met mine, this was the first time that they weren't filled with hatred.
I quickly shut the door and covered my mouth, too scared to move my body, feeling as if I were back in shock.
