Chapter Eleven: Festivities
Words: 1633

I don't remember coming back to my house or even waking up the day after, but here I am, supposedly in a clinic for the UA festival. I never dissociated this long before but apparently, I was conscious to text Shinsou a short apology. He, of course, lectured me like he's my dad or something.
The last message he sent was a mirror selfie of him getting ready for the festival. I tried to come up with something clever to humble his ego, but I ended up replying with a "good luck!! i'll be your cheerleader!!"

Grandmother was softly singing a song behind me, her voice harmonizing with the monotonous hum of the air conditioner. I peered over at her where she was organizing the medical equipment, full of tools that I've never seen before. I guess that she's preparing for things that even her quirk can't fix. I've seen UA festivals before on TV so I understand what we're in for.

I looked to my left where Shinsou's cat was napping on the patient bed. I brought her just because I think it'll help with the psychological part of medical care, but mostly because she's adorable.
Shinsou won't let me name her as he doesn't know if he's officially adopting her or not, and giving a name just creates attachment. For now, he just refers to her as an "it". From her shiny, regal black coat and big yellow eyes, I think she looks like a Suzu.

Grandmother then turned around to face me with a confident expression, clasping my hands in hers: "I know you've seen these festivals on TV, but being in the clinic is far more drastic than the actual thing. I've asked for an additional clinic next to this one and it's all set up for you. I think I'll be fine but if I need help, I'll call you down, for now...go enjoy the festival."

I nodded with a bright smile and patted Suzu's back, which she replied happily with a deep purr as I shut the door behind me and headed towards the arena.

I think this is the final round of the sports festival, which is one-on-one combat, but I don't remember anything else since I didn't really pay attention to what was on TV.

Once I got to the area, I sat in an empty seat near where Class 1A was grouped together, to at least be by familiar faces, and stared at the empty area, waiting for the festival to officially begin. I really hope Shinsou wins. I don't know much about hero customs but I'm sure that winning this will be amazing for his career. I mean, as long as he's able to get people to talk to him, he wins—it can't be that hard.

I looked around the sea of people and quickly recognized how it's set up. UA students are typically on the same stage number and I can easily see Class 1C a couple of rows below us from the highly identifiable Shinsou hair sticking out in the crowd.
I sent him a message saying to look behind him. He checked his phone and turned around slightly, his face softening as we made eye contact. I smiled at him and waved a little, which he turned around after a classmate started talking to him.

"Seriously...," I heard someone mutter beside me.

Were they talking to me? I hesitantly looked over and bit my tongue as Bakugo was sitting beside me.
I held my breath and scooted as far as I could in my seat, keeping my eyes glued to my phone even though Shinsou definitely wasn't going to be the one who texts me. If I were going to get a notification, it would probably be a software update that I've been putting off for a few months.

"So...did you get home safe, or whatever...," Bakugo mutters to me after a pause of silence, putting his hand behind his head.

I looked up at him blankly and looked around me out of awkwardness: "What do you mean?"

"That Shinsou guy called me last night to ask if you were with me and said you were missing. I see you're here now but did anything happen? He seemed really freaked out so I thought you were hurt..." Bakugo asked, his eyes burning into mine.
