Chapter six

STEPHANIE'S POV

I couldn't get my mind off of today . So many things happening just so fast ! I can't do this ... Why me ? I hope things will get better . I headed home . Yes , my real home . Most people would just stay in hostel , but not me ...

It's Saturday tomorrow and I have a lot of work to do . No rest ... Just work ! So I had to finish homework by tonight . Tomorrow is my 9 o'clock shift at Pizza Hut and I can come home at 11 o'clock at night . I'm saving up for both college fees and my own personal stuff . Like a car .

I walked in the house without even knocking and I saw my dad lying on the couch and snoring off . The whole house smelled like Jack Daniels . I woke up dad by dropping my heavy bag on the floor .

" Hey Hun ! You're back ! Is it already Friday ? " he said while wiping the drool off his face .

" Yeah ... " I said

" Made a boyfriend ? " He asked .

" You always ask me that ... Why ? and no I haven't . " I replied .

" Well , I worry about you . You're a girl who's a book worm and doesn't focus on living life . " He replied .

It hit me in my heart for the first time . He worries about me ? I thought he only worries about missing his WWE episodes .

" Thanks for worrying but I am not going to be having one anytime soon . Any news from mom ? " I asked .

" No . " he said

I went upstairs , carrying that same heavy backpack . I opened the door and sat on the bed and took out a pair of earphones and stuck one in each ear . I love music .

It's my only escape in such a world . My life sucks . It totally sucks HARD .

Then , the doorbell rang and I thought it was best if Jake didn't see my drunk father for the first time while answering the door , so I rushed downstairs and answered the door . It was Nate .

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse !

" Hey ! Is this where Stephanie Grass lives ? I mean Grace ? " he said just to irritate me .

" Come in , Nate . "I said as I took him up to my room where it didn't smell that much like Jack Daniels .

My dad raised an eyebrow at me and gave a look . He mouthed ' Perfect ' and winked an eye . I felt disgusted .

" I'm sorry bout my dad. " I said .

" No way ! You're dad ? I thought he was Haymitch from the hunger games ! " He said as he laughed cutely at his own joke .

What the ... did I just think 'cutely' ?

Anyways , I asked " So ... why'd you decide to come by ? "

" 2 things " he said .

" Number one - We have been paired up to do a history report on the civil war . Number two - I heard you were going to Jack's party ? "

" No , I'm not going . I have lots of work to do and I'm sorry Jake put you up to all of thi - " I replied

" Wait ! Jake isn't even coming . He doesn't even know there's gonna be a party . What's going on ? " he asked

" I have no idea . Daniel told me all this . " I said .

" Damn it ! I think they're trying to prank us . I'm not going ! "

" Yeah umm ... so about Jess ... How are things going ? "

" I got slapped AGAIN . " He said .

" Well ... I barely know you and there is already rumors that we are dating ! " I said

" It's never too late ! I'm Nate Lynch ... I changed the Lynch to Lynn cause Lynch sounds like leech ... so I play drums and base guitar . How bout you ? "

" I'm Stephanie Grace . I love to read . I'm good at getting A's on tests . I love music . " I said

" Great ! We have something in common ! Music ! " He exclaimed

" But I don't sing or play any instruments . "

" Why not ? "

" I just have so much stress going on . I mean , my dad , my mom , school , my part time job and studies . I just don't have the time to good off or sing songs . " I explained

" Try it out ! C'mon ! Sing ! " He said .

" No I don't sin - "

" Stop saying that ! Here , I will start . Umm you probably know the lyrics so join in whenever you're ready okay ? " he said

" But I - "

" Well you only need the light when it's burning low , only miss the sun when starts to snow , only know you love her when you let her go " He started singing in this beautiful husky voice .

" Only know you've been high when you're feeling low , Only hate the road when you're missing home , Only know you love her when you let her go " I sang .

He looked at me and said " You have such a beautiful voice ! Why don't you use it ? I can get you instantly popular with this talented voice ! "

I blushed and said " Well , as I said , I have tension of my own . I can't deal with these distractions . "

He looked at his watch and said " Okay ! Umm hostel grounds will be closed so I gotta go before they close the gates . "

I rolled my eyes sarcastically and said " Okay , go ahead . "

He left and I stared at him from my window . His hair against the wind on that skateboard was just so ... so ... umm ... Stephanie ! Stop thinking about him !

" You like ? " My dad asked me .

" Ye - no ! No way ! " I replied

God that was close ! I almost said yes ...

I finished my homework and fell asleep .

The next morning , I woke up and went to work. I put on the stupid hat and said to myself " I'm ready ! " as I imitated Spongebob .

It was the usual . Up until twelve o'clock , I get to work at the counter and after twelve , the drive through . Around one thirty , a customer drove in .

" Welcome to Pizza Hut . Would you like to try our stuffed crust pizz - " I left a disgusted look on my face as I rose my head to find the customer non other than Nate Lynch .

" I would like to order just one thing . " He said as he laughed in my face .

" Just tell me what you want to take out and I'll give it to you . "

" Anything ? " He asked .

" Name it and you can take it out . " I said

" Promise ? " He said

I sighed and said " Yes ! Just tell me what you'd like to take out ! "

" I'd like to take you out . " He said .

" Come on ! Seriously ? " I said

" You PROMISED ! " He said .

It was my lunch break anyways so I handed my shift over to Dave and drove off .

He took me to Lavazza café and we sat there drinking coffee and snacking on the tasty crisp French fries and Bacon N Cheese sandwich . We had so much fun . He drove me back to Pizza Hut on his motorcycle and I hugged him and said thank you .

I walked in and Dave said " There was a guy looking for you ... He was tall and had brownish blondish hair . The name was Jack or something . "

" Jake ? " I asked .

" Yes ! He waited an awfully long time and left in anger without ordering anything . "

Oh shit ! I completely forgot . Oh my god ! I'm suck a terrible person ! I looked at my phone and there was 24 missed calls exactly .
