I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night. My chest felt tight and I had a horrible stomachache. I couldn't get another breath in.

I swear I was going to die.

I shot out of bed and used what was left of my energy to run up to the attic and pound on the door. Barbara and Adam would know what was going on, because I sure didn't.

I was out of energy, out of breath, and scared for my life. I ran into the attic and threw myself on the couch, crying.

"Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?" Adam said.

"I have no idea!" I cried in between breaths. Adam knelt down next to me and squeezed my hand, and I squeezed my eyes shut, terrified.

"I'm going to die..." I said.

Barbara sat down next to Adam and said, "No, Diesel, it's okay. You're not going to die, trust me. As much as I love your voice, stop talking for now so you don't run out of breath. I can tell you're already struggling to breathe a bit."

I shut my eyes tight again, and said, "No..." I still had no clue what was happening to me. It was the middle of the night, and I felt like screaming.

I couldn't even do that.

Adam looked at Barbara, and Adam said, "I think I know what's going on..."

I opened my eyes and looked at him. "You...you do?"

Adam looked down at me and said, "I think you might be having a panic attack. It might be because she's in an unfamiliar environment and she's been bottling up her feelings for years."

Barbara looked down at me and kissed my forehead. "It'll be okay, baby." she whispered. "Just take a few deep breaths and it'll be okay. Just try for me." Barbara put my head in her lap and started rubbing my tummy. I tried to take a few deep breaths but I couldn't get enough air in. Barbara stopped rubbing my tummy and just kept her hand still on my stomach.

The weight of her hand was just enough to calm me down.

Adam was still squeezing my hand, and I let my eyes close. Barbara whispered to Adam, "It's working, her breathing is slowing down."

I fell asleep with my head on Barbara's lap. I felt Barbara kiss my forehead and Adam let go of my hand.

I don't know how I would've gotten through tonight without them.
