Chapter 8: The Green Demon

I was sitting criss-cross applesauce on my bed when someone banged on the door.

"You can knock gently!" I cried.

Soon, a guy with green hair and a striped suit barged in my room and sat at the foot of my bed. "Diesel, is it?" he asked.

"Yeah. Who the heck are you?"

"Why, I'm the one and only Beetlejuice! I assume you're related to Lyds somehow."

"Yeah. I'm adopted into the family, I'm her little sister. Are you related to her somehow?"

"No." he laughed. "I'm just the demon who visits here sometimes."

"What is with all the dead people in this house?" I sighed to myself.

Lydia entered, laughing her head off. "I see you've met Beej. Beej, Diesel. Diesel, Beej."

"Okay, before I forget, what kind of a name is Diesel?" Beej said.

"It's a nickname. It's short for Delilah." I said.

Barbara barged in right then and there and grabbed Beej by the arm. "Don't scare her!" she said.

"Too late." I said. "This dude is creepy."

"He's really nice once you get to know him." Lydia said.

"By the way, Diesel, what's your last name?" Beej asked.

"Frye. My full name is Delilah Rose Frye."

Beej made a noise like a firecracker and I jumped. "I'm calling you French Fry!" he said, laughing.

"What's with the stupid nicknames?" Lydia said. "Besides, Diesel is already a nickname."

"Yeah, but Delilah is an old lady name and calling her Diesel just makes me feel like I'm at a gas station. I'm calling you French Fry."

"Sure, whatever." I said, laughing.

"We'll leave you alone." Barbara said, and she and Lydia left.

Beej sat at the foot of my bed and said, "Hey, I'm not that crazy. If you need me, just say my name 3 times."

"Beetlejuice?" I asked.

"Yes. Now, go have fun. I'll catch you later." he said, disappearing in a cloud of smoke.
