The next day, Saturday, comes sooner than expected. I hardly had any sleep due to my brain replaying the scene that happened in the alleyway. It's now 5:38 in the morning and I'm just staring up at the ceiling.
"Is he still on your mind?" Lizzy asks
I sit up and nod, "just a bit."
She comes to sit next to me, "I know it was your first kiss and all, but why is it affecting you so much?"
"Do you think I would be up all night if I knew the answer to that? I just can't stop thinking about it."
She laughs, "well you should. It won't do you any good if dad finds out."
I pale. That's right, I can't keep thinking about it. It'll only bring trouble to me and the family.
"Can we head down to the station now?" I ask.
"Car or walk?"
"Let's walk today, I need the fresh air," I say.
She nods, "Alright, I'll see you downstairs after you change."
She leaves and I head to the closet. I pull out and put on a baggy, plain white shirt and a dark blue sweater over top, a pair of black jeans and high top vans. I put my hair in a ponytail, my bangs sticking against my face. I didn't know which glasses to wear but I went with the circled ones, they are my sisters' favorite.
I head downstairs and Elizabeth laughs, "don't you look adorable."
I rub my neck, "really? I just thought it looked nice. I'm glad dad isn't awake yet, do you think he'll kill me for looking like this?"
According to our father, guys can't be soft. If men are soft, that means they're weak and won't be able to take charge. He thinks men have to take charge in all the heavy lifting that woman can't do. But I think that men should be able to be taken care of. I don't necessarily think it makes them soft, it's just a matter of comfortability.
"He's our dad, so we have to see where he's coming from. He was born in a time when others didn't accept this kind of change," she starts, "but today is different. If he can't accept you for who you are, then he really shouldn't be in your life."
I nod and we leave the house. Elizabeth was right. If my dad can't accept me for who I am, then he shouldn't be in my life. But, that decision will come once I am ready to tell him I am gay.
"So," Lizzy asks, "Have you had any thought of why those guys would kill a cop?"
"As far as I know, the cop borrowed some money. Apparently, his kid has cancer and he needed the money for the treatment."
She nods, "I wonder if his wife and kid knows yet."
I say, "Well, we can ask as soon as we get to the station."
"Sorry to burst your bubble, but that won't be happening," someone says from behind us.
We turn and I pale, it was one of the guys from last night. Lizzy grabs my arm and we turn around, ready to run. But, in our way, the two other guys who shot the cop.
"Our boss wants to speak with you. Wanna do this the easy way, or the difficult way?" The one behind us speaks.
As I look at him, he holds a gun in his hand. I manage to get my arm out of my sister's grip. I walk closer to the guy holding the gun.
"I'll go with you as long as my sister doesn't come with us. She has nothing to do with this."
He nods, "you heard your brother. Get out of here but don't go to the cops. If we find out you did go, it won't be a pretty sight."
Lizzy was pushed into an alleyway and I was pushed into a car that had just pulled up. I smiled at Lizzy, making sure to tell her that nothing bad was going to happen.
When in the car, I sat between the two guys who didn't speak when they surrounded me. The guy who spoke is on the phone talking, probably to his boss. He tosses one of the guys a blindfold, looks like I won't be able to see where we are heading for.
When it feels like forever, we finally stop. I was pulled out of the car and led somewhere, thank god I didn't trip. They sat me down in a chair and left me alone.
Again, I'm left alone for what feels like an eternity. Then, the door creaks open. A rolling chair is scooted close and I feel the blindfold being torn off.
"Hello Luca. I heard you gave my boys some trouble," A man in a suit says to me.
I stay quiet. I don't want them knowing that I am scared shitless right now.
"There is no need to be scared," he says, "I just want to talk."
I look at him with a suspicious kind of look.
He laughs, "Allow me to introduce myself. I am the leader of the Scarlet Wolves, Colton."
"Hi," I say back.
"Let's get straight into why you are here. How much did you see exactly?"
I keep my mouth shut. If I spill anything, I am a dead man.
He sighs, "It won't be good to keep quiet Luca. I believe the boys said you had recorded them."
"They knew?"
He shakes his head, "Nope."
I groan and slam my head against the table.
"Please hand over the phone and let me see the video."
I shake my head, "can't, I don't have it anymore."
"What do you mean?" He asks.
I show him my phone, "I thought something like this would happen. I sent the video to my sister, who probably showed the cops and is looking for me."
"You're a pain," he says and stands up, "But you're useful."
He grabs my arm and starts to drag me somewhere. He stops at a door with a guard in front of it.
"No one comes in this room. Is that understood?" He asks the guard.
The guard nods and I am pushed inside the room and I trip over my own two feet. I start freaking out when I realise that this isn't just any room.
"You're really interesting Luca," he says while loosening his tie, "tell me what it's like having to hide your sexuality?"
I stand up, "How do you know that?"
He laughs, "did you really think we wouldn't research you. Luca Matthews, about to turn 18 on August 14th, part time worker at AAC, the youngest of two and gay. I find it exciting that someone so interesting can be this soft."
As he walks forward, I walk back. My back hits a wall and Colton cages me in.
"Nowhere left to run, Luca. Just give in, I promise to be gentle," He says while leaning in.
I use all my strength to push him away and I make a dash to the door. But before I can get a few steps away, he grabs my arm and we fall onto the bed.
"Feisty, I like it."
