It's been two or three days since my father found out. I don't recall much since I rushed off to my room and locked myself inside. I haven't stepped foot outside and I don't let anyone in.
"Luca, lunch is here," Robbie says.
Once I hear his footsteps fade away, I open the door and bring the food inside. Today's meal is the same thing, two sandwiches and raspberry lemonade. I eat it and put the empty plate back outside the door.
"Luca," I hear Jaxon's voice, "please come out. It's been three days and everyone is worried."
After the incident, Aiden and the others found out. They all have been really supportive and all but that's not what I'm worried about. What worries me is Jaxon. He's acting so calm about all of this but he hasn't even given me a response yet.
"Go away," I say softly.
I hear him sigh and leave. I keep telling myself it's better this way but I don't really know if that's the truth. In all honesty, if they wanted to get me out, all they had to do is push the door open. I haven't locked it and if they push it with a lot of force, they could open it.
My phone vibrates, it's Elijah. He has been the only person I've been talking to, I've even stopped talking to Charlie and Riley.
E: Wanna get away for a bit?
L: How? Everyone is standing guard.
E: Just trust me and get changed.
L: Okay, see you soon.
So, I change from my pajamas into black jeans, a white t-shirt and a dark blue plaid button-up shirt that I leave open. I put on a dark blue beanie and wait for Elijah to text me back.
E: Everyone just left for dinner, Jaxon is holding an important meeting. I told him I would watch after you. Come down to the lobby, I'm waiting.
L: Okay, leaving my room now.
I quickly and quietly leave my room and head to the elevator. I hear Robbie in the kitchen and decided against going in the elevator, he would know I'm leaving.
I head to the stairway and get started. It takes me awhile since the penthouse is many floors above the lobby. After I finished the hike down the stairs, I see Elijah waiting.
"Elijah, sorry for the wait. I didn't want Robbie to know I was leaving," I explain.
He nods, "No problem. So, what do you wanna do?"
"Can we go for a walk, I need some air and some time to think."
Elijah nods and we leave the building. We arrive at a park and sit down on a bench to talk.
"So, I heard about what happened. How are things between you and Jaxon?"
I sigh, "I don't know anymore. I kissed him then ran away. I locked myself in my room but I don't know why. I guess it's because I'm insecure."
"About what?" Elijah asks.
I shrug, "everything? It's just, Jaxon's the first guy I liked. But, what if something happens to him because of this whole gang thing? Can I really love someone who could get killed one day because of this? And, what if he finds out that he's being lied too?"
Elijah looks at me, "What do you mean?"
"My family isn't my real family. I heard my mother and father talking one night when I was ten. She told my father that I should be told the truth, how I was found on their doorstep when I was three. My real birthday was unknown to them so they made the day they found me, August 14th, my birthday."
I feel my phone vibrate and it's Jaxon.
J: Where are you??
L: Out, why?
J: Who are you with?
L: What's with you? Why do you wanna know?
J: Luca, you're in danger.
J: Please, tell me where you are.
"Luca," Elijah says, "Who is it?"
I look at Elijah, "Jaxon, he says I'm in danger."
"Luca, I'm sorry."
Before I can ask what he means by that, someone grabs me and I feel something prick my neck. The last thing I see is Elijah with a sad look on his face before I pass out.
(Note: Now, it's Elijah's point of view.)
"Tell grandfather the plan was successful, I need to make a call," I tell Colton.
He nods and takes Luca away. I take my phone out of my pocket and it rings.
"Hello," I answer.
"Where are you Elijah?" Jaxon says on the other end.
I laugh, "My dear Jax, I'm only doing what grandfather ordered. He wanted to meet Luca."
"Damn it Elijah, I thought we were on the same side?!"
"My loyalty has alway been with your grandfather. We may have left together but I was always reporting to him. I was chosen to watch over you."
"I don't care about that Eli, where is Luca?!"
I say, "Heading to the main house. If you want him back, come and get him before he learns of his past. One that's connected to all of us."
I hang up and get into the other car. I tell the driver to take the long way back to the house, I needed time to think.
For as long as I can remember, grandfather was the one taking care of me. At the age of seven, my mother died and my father kicked me out of the house. That day, grandfather found me in an alleyway digging through the trash.
He gave me a home and food, he was the only person to ever show me any love besides my deceased mother. I took it upon myself to do whatever he asked, no matter what the consequences might be. So, when Jaxon asked me to leave the wolves I hesitated but went with him because of grandfather orders.
"Elijah, follow Jaxon and keep tabs on him. You're now the only person he trusts. Watch him and report everything he does back to me."
Those were my orders and I did just that. But when Luca came into the picture, things became a mess. I knew who Luca was the moment I saw him and I knew Jaxon did too. After getting Luca to trust me, I went to inform grandfather of what happened. I know that when grandfather and Luca meet, the truth will be revealed.
I was there that day, the day everything started. I wonder if things would have been different if that day never happened. Would Luca's fate be just like Jaxon's?
When I arrive back at the main house, grandfather is waiting for me. I exit the car and smile at him. He returns the smile and gives me a small hug.
"I've seen this Luca boy, is he who I think he is?" He asks.
I nod, "indeed. Luca Matthews is the son of Alexander Dawson. Luca knows he is adopted but doesn't know much about his past."
He sighs, " I see, is Jaxon coming home?"
"Yes sir, he is on his way."
"Looks like things are going to be intense from here on out."
