I was up at 7 and the truck came at 8:30. I take a quick shower and get dressed. Dark blue jeans, a white shirt with a thin black sweater and a jean jacket and a gray beanie. I put my hair up and my round glasses on.
I start grabbing boxes from the basement and bring them back up to my room. I put most of the fragile things in a few different boxes. Lizzy enters my room and hands me an egg, bacon and cheese sandwich and a strawberry smoothie. I take a small break and eat before packing again.
Jaxon comes in five minutes after we finish eating. He has four people with him that I recognise from school; Aiden, Dean, Oliver and Vincent. All four of them are on a sports team in school. Aiden and Dean are on the football team, Oliver is on the baseball team and Vincent is on the soccer team.
It takes about an hour or two to pack everything up and move everything onto the truck. At a quarter to 10, everything is on the truck and it's time to head out.
"Well, it's time for me to go. I'll call you as soon as I get settled," I say to mom.
She smiles, "I am going to miss you. When things calm down, can I come visit?"
Jaxon comes over and answers mom's question.
"When everything is safe and the whole gang thing goes away, you are free to come and see your son."
"Keep him safe for me."
He nods, "Will do. We should go now."
I nod and hug mom one last time. I get into Lizzy's car and, as we leave, I look back at the house one last time. Dad was at the window in his office, looking out with a plain, straight face. He turns around and heads back into the house.
"It's for the best, you know that," Lizzy says to me.
I nod, "I just hope things don't get any worse."
It takes us around twenty to half an hour to get to Jaxon's home. Just like Lizzy said, Jaxon's apartment was only a five minute walk from school.
I get out of Lizzy's car and begin to help unload the truck.
"Luca," Jaxon says, "leave the work to the Vipers. Come in and get a feel for the place."
I nod and follow Jaxon into the apartment. We walk past a doorman who nods at Jaxon.
"Welcome back, sir!"
"Thanks Elijah. This is Luca, the one under our protection. He needs full access to everything, understood?"
Elijah nods, "Of course, sir."
After that short conversation, Jaxon leads me to an elevator. He presses the up button and heads in, I follow. He presses the top button, which is the biggest of all the buttons.
It takes a few minutes to get all the way to the top but when we arrive, my jaw drops. I exit the elevator and enter what other people call a penthouse. First, when you walk out of the elevator, the living room is quite spacious.
To the left of the elevator are stairs, that lead up to what I am guessing is many bedrooms. To the right, I see an older man coming out of a room. I believe it's the kitchen.
"We have four bedrooms, not including mine and my study, a kitchen and a theater room. Downstairs, where we met Elijah, is a pool and a gym.
Underground, we have a shooting area and a dojo, where you will learn to protect yourself when I can't," Jaxon explains.
I nod, barley grasping what he says. I have been in a penthouse before, my sister lives in one, but it wasn't this huge.
"Where am I sleeping?" I ask.
