"He's .......your mate?" Joseph hesitated emphasising on the word mate.
"You can't tell a soul. No one in the pack must know about this. Please?" I said ignoring his statement.
"How could that be possible? You need your mate to help build this pack. That is the one thing your father lacked. That in fact is the one thing our pack has lacked for four generations and you know that. We can't repeat that Arlene." He said stressfully.
"That is exactly what I knew would happen. That all of you would get passed him killing my father and accept him!" I shouted now feeling the tears cloud my eyes.
"But you know our history sweetheart. As a pack we are not family by blood but we all have the same bad luck. Your father had a chance to change it,but his mate's father interfered.
We need this. We really do." He frowned now.
I was crying now,heavily.
"I am not defending him I swear. But you were on his land,he must have had a reason. Last time I checked Alpha Roman respected you father and from what I see if Nali tried to cause commotion? She did a hell of a job. Much more than she would imagine herself. Think about it." He finished.
Our pack history is quite the complicated one. For the last four generations, our forefathers had never found their mates until a later stage when it was almost too late to have them. Two actually found theirs at the brink of their deaths. This included both the beta and alpha families. That's why our pack has never been widely expanded, because mates happen to play a large part especially when it came to the power.
Ofcourse my father found his,but lost her under circumstances beyond his control. It's like he opened doors now because I found my mate too.
The same thing happened with Joseph and his family of beta's. Except Joseph did find his mate about three months before we left here. He has been happily married to Betsy,Mesalla's mother, but when he found his mate, she happened to be an eighteen year old girl from my school and ofcourse belonging to our pack. This has since then put a strain on him. He has loved his wife for years but now is unsure of whether to stay loyal to her or convince his mate they can be together. He trusted me with this secret and its been really hard to see him suffer. He has been like a father to me.
"Do you see her?" I asked him knowing he would understand my question.
"Lets just say Jane has been more than nice to me." He said thoughtfully.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"She says she understands my position and is willing to give me all the time I need. I know you will understand now that you have your mate. I want her so bad, I need her close but its just......impossible."
I really didn't know what to say to him at this point. He was in a tight spot but definitely better than my situation. Or was it?
"Does Mesalla know?" I asked.
"Ofcourse not. I can't find the heart to tell him." He responded.
"We will avenge father's death. I will not take no for an answer. So quit trying Joseph. Just don't" I was serious.
He saw this because all he did was give me a nod with a "yes alpha" after it.
Joseph left later that morning and at four in the afternoon Mesalla came by.
"I thought about it and I agree to the attack. I am only hopeful that alpha Roman does not expect the attack because we will have the advantage. Despite all that I would appreciate being in the shadows and you as the packs beta taking the lead." I said.
