Chapter 8 - The Traitor, The Ruler, The Enemy.
Annabeth's POV-
I woke up in this dark throne room. Everything was black. I was in Hades' throne room. Just great. I got up, my first instinct to run but as I took one step I was pulled back. I look at my wrist and see a black chain. Real great. A door opened across the room and the dark figure of Hades walked in accompanied by some skeletons. I gulped down my fear and stood my ground. "What do you want?" I growled.
He simply just smiled which made me more mad. "A little birdie told me you were coming after a tree.-" I was taken aback a second, who told him? It couldn't be... No. I shook that thought out of my mind and focused back on his words. "-But I have already returned it for you. But we can't have you completing that prophecy." The evil look on his face wanted to make me puke. He turned to leave and nodded to the skeletons that were waiting and I had a bad feeling as they approached with their sharp pointy spears. The first hit and I let out a scream that could have probably been heard throughout the whole underworld. The next one hit and I was in so much pain my mind shut off.
This continued for what seemed like an hour black spots dancing across my eyes. It seemed as though they had finally had enough of torturing me so they dragged me along the dark corridors. I don't know why but I started sobbing. In pain? In relief? I wasn't sure but they finally threw me down and when I looked up I saw Percy and Grover rushing towards me and I heard the clang of a metal door shutting behind me. Grover dug around in his pocket as Percy helped me sit up. After a few seconds Grover pulled out a piece of ambrosia and handed it to me. While I slowly ate a few bites the questions started.
"What happened?" Percy asked me brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.
I started crying, I didn't want to relive my pain, he pulled me into a hug and we all sat there in silence for a while before I spoke up. "He-he knows."
"Who knows what?" Grover asked
"Hades knows we were after the tree." I explained, nerves filling my voice.
"I thought your mom said that he wouldn't know until we had it." Percy questioned
I nodded "No one knows except for us, Chiron, and..." my insides lit with horror.
"Annabeth," Percy said, stroking her hair trying to comfort me "who else knows?"
"Piper.." I said, my voice hollow. I shook her head "No! She couldn't have told him. She wouldn't."
"Annabeth it's ok. Right now we just need to find a way out." he said.
The door at the far end opened again and he pulled me closer to him.
The door opened to reveal someone that took the three a bit by surprise...
