lee chan
" Chan! " the girl who was currently in 7th grade shouted out, rushing over to Lee Chan.
Lee Chan has been her friend since the start of 6th grade. He was a very cute boy, his hair was fluffy and his smile was contagious.
Lee Chan was a very bright and cheerful boy in general, taking the initiative to make friends with Y/n on the first day of 6th grade when he saw her walking alone.
Even though Chan was two grades higher, they were close and many thought that they knew each other since birth.
That day, however, Y/n sensed that something was amiss.
He didn't greet her with his usual enthusiasm and his smile seemed fake.
He talked less on the way to her class. Chan would always walk Y/n to class in the morning to make sure that the bullies in his grade wouldn't pick on her.
He was rather fond of the girl, wanting to protect her whenever he could, wanting her to be happy with herself.
He had a crush on her a few months after he got to know her but he knew that she only thought of him as her best friend and nothing more.
" Chan? Are you ok? You're a little quiet today. " Y/n asked once they arrived at her classroom.
" You're free after school right? " Chan asked, ignoring her question, " let's hang out. "
She nodded, waving to Chan as she walked into her classroom and Chan made his way to his.
He just couldn't keep his mind off her. Throughout the day, he didn't pay any attention to the lesson and just kept thinking about her.
It wasn't like he needed his grades in the future.
After school, he waited for her at the lockers near her classroom like he usually would.
When Y/n exited the classroom a few minutes later, she immediately spotted Chan leaning against the lockers, with his bag swung on one shoulder.
" Lets go, " he said, messing up her hair which made her slightly irritated.
" Yah! I told you not to mess up my hair, " she said angrily with a slight pout afterwards.
" Sorryy~ " he laughed, patting her head lightly to flatten her hair, " I'll treat you ice-cream. "
After a 10 minute walk, the pair arrived at their favourite cafe and sat down at their usual seat in the corner of the cafe.
" Do you want ice cream or a drink? "
" Urm, both! The usual. "" I'll pay you back later, " y/n said, rummaging through her bag to find her wallet.
" Dont worry about it, my treat. "
He winked playfully at the overjoyed girl and made his way to the cashier to order.
Timeskip
The sky was like a perfectly painted picture with rich hues of red blended with orange. The two friends sat on the swings of an abandoned playground.
The playground they always been to.
The sky slowly turned dark and the faint outline of the crescent moon could be seen. The surroundings were peaceful, the occasional sound of cars passing by and crickets could be heard.
Chan stared down at the sand beneath him, he wanted to tell her everything. Everything that is going on in his life but he couldn't bring himself to say anything.
He knew that the truth would hurt her, she would be upset. He didn't want to hurt her with the truth.
He was responsible for his own decisions after all.
However, he wasn't aware that by not telling her anything, he still did what he didn't want to do. He still hurt her.
Chan had been living with his aunt since he was nine. The day his parents died was the day that his aunt came frantically knocking at his door.
His world came crashing down when he heard the news about his parents.
He didn't know what was going on back then as he was only nine. All he could do was cry about it, blaming himself for their death. Thinking that he should have just begged them to stay home that Saturday night.
Even if he had succeeded in persuading them, nothing would have changed. They would still die the same way. Both his parents knew their fate and it was inescapable.
About a few months back during his 15th birthday, his aunt had passed him a letter that his parents had left him, explaining everything.
Explaining their death.
" Our cutie chan,
Happy 15th birthday! It's been years since we passed on and me and dad hope you're doing well. We know that you might want to know how we died, so we decided to write you this letter.
Back then you were only nine, so we had your aunt promise to not tell you anything and to hand this over to you when you turned fifteen. Now that you're older, we believe that you have ever right to know what we kept from you.
Mum and Dad were part of a gang, a small gang. It wasn't very well-to-do. Both of us got into some bad company and were forced to be in the gang.
All the members are slowly getting killed one by one and we know that our time will come soon. We were unable to run away, we tried. We constantly shifted bases but they would track us down eventually.
Today, 13 July, we're going on a mission. It's a small mission but we both knew that we're going to die yet we had no choice but to accept the mission. We regretted everything.
That day was the last day we saw you. We're sorry for leaving you with your aunt. We love you. Please don't join any gangs like us.
Please don't get your revenge on the gang that killed us
Love,
mum and dad "After re-reading everything, Chan did exactly what his parents told him not to do.
He joined a gang.
Standing up from the swing, he walked y/n home before the clock struck 8. He watched as Y/n took the key out of her pocket and inserted it into the keyhole. He quickly took a step forward, his hand reaching out to stop her from opening the door.
" Can I have a hug? "
His voice was softer and more gentle than usual. Confused, the girl stepped closer towards him and hugged him tightly. She had always wanted to give her best friend a hug but found it weird to ask for one.
She didn't know that it was the last time she was going to see him.
Chan left without a trace, without an explanation. His sudden disappearance from school caused the school to worry. They called his aunt, asking if she knew where Chan was. But she didn't. No one knew where the boy went.
Poor y/n was left alone. Alone in the cruel world with the horrible family she has.
She blamed his disappearance on herself.
She thought that his disappearance was due to her not telling him anything about her past. She thought that he had somehow found out and was furious at her for not telling him anything.
Life took everyone that was precious away from the little girl.
Leaving her scared to value someone.
Leaving her broken and almost unmendable
