Golden Heart
The sun was shining brightly inside the small bedroom, lighting their faces. It was still raining, though there were only a few clouds up above. The storm had passed and the weather had gotten better. Miles and Alice had been able to sleep through the rest of the night without waking up once.
Alice awoke to the sound of the steady pitter patter of rain upon the window. She opened her eyes but quickly closed them again after noticing the bright sun was shining directly at her face. She was still half-asleep and had no idea what was going on or why there was a sudden weight on her, as if something heavy was lying on her. Her leg had fallen asleep, the prickling coming from it was very uncomfortable and definitely nothing she wanted to wake up to.
She shielded her eyes from the sun and opened them again, looking down at her body. What she saw surprised her, her eyes widening as she realized what was going on, remembering last night. On her, sleeping peacefully, was Miles, his arms tightly wrapped around her thin body. He was breathing steadily, Alice could feel the rising and falling of his chest against her torso. It was almost weird to see him sleeping so peacefully when he was usually frowning while he slept and a whimpering mess.
Her heart began to race at the sight. Not only did he look perfect and peaceful sleeping like that, he was also literally cuddling with her. Miles, the tough guy who always acted like nothing ever bothered him, who never showed affection and was basically an emotionless rock, was cuddling with her. She had never thought she would see him like this, so peaceful, looking almost like a small puppy. That was exactly what he was right now, he small, sleeping puppy. If he had been awake he would've been able to hear her racing heart. He would've probably smirked at her and, while doing so, would've noticed the red on her cheeks and how flustered she'd get.
She cleared her throat in an attempt to wake him, suddenly feeling overwhelmed by the tingling feeling all over her body. She felt as if her heart was going to explode, her stomach felt like it was turning inside her. Or perhaps she was just hungry. Why would she feel nervous anyway? He just had his arms wrapped around her, he was just sleeping. And that was actually a good thing.
He was still fast asleep when she looked back down at him. She suddenly felt bad for trying to wake him, he was probably exhausted and just wanted to sleep a little longer. How often did it happen that he was actually able to sleep properly? But how was she supposed to stand up if he was clinging onto her. She cleared her throat again but nothing happened. She sighed and looked up at the ceiling, trying to think of what to do. Maybe she should just try to fall asleep again and wait until he wakes up.
She closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep. First she thought of things that could make her fall asleep. The sun, that was shining directly at her face, didn't help, she was squeezing her eyes shut and was desperately trying to fall asleep but with no luck. She groaned before covering her mouth with her hand and opening her eyes, realizing that this probably woke Miles.
And she was right.
Miles starting letting out little groans and rubbed his eyes like a little kid that just woke up. It was almost adorable to watch him. But Alice suddenly felt guilty for waking him, even though she really wanted to stand up just a few minutes ago. Miles yawned before realizing that his arms were currently wrapped around someone's body. And this someone was Alice.
He slowly raised his head and looked up at her with wide eyes, staring right into her eyes. She gave him an awkward smile, her cheeks bright red and her face feeling as if it was on fire, suddenly flustered. He stared at her in confusion before quickly untangling his legs from hers and sitting up, right next to her. He awkwardly scratched the back of his neck, looking down. Alice sat up as well, suddenly feeling uncomfortable.
