Can wanted to make Saturday special, so he decided to buy her an engagement ring to go along with the gold band they would exchange at the proposal. But it had to be special, unique, maybe even one of a kind, just like her. He thought about it all the way home from her house that evening, he hoped he had time to find the right one. " Dad, I want to find an exquisite ring, one just for her, do you have any suggestions?" He asked. His dad thought a second, " Yes, in fact I do, I will show you when we get home." Aziz answered, with a sparkle in his eyes, " I think I have just the thing." Can smiled, his dad always seemed to have the answer, he hoped to be half the man he was in his older years. As they arrived home, Aziz went straight to his room, and returned in a few minutes with a box. " Can you have made me happier than I have been in years, just seeing the love you both have for one another is all that a parent could wish for a child." He said, reaching in the box to bring out a small round box, it was covered in velvet and he could tell it was very old. " This ring belonged to my mother, my father had it made especially for her. He designed it himself, and gave it to her on their 10th wedding anniversary." Can's eyes burned with tears he refused to let fall, as he watched his dad relive these memories. He held it lovingly in his fingers, " Son, I remember when my father gave this to her, I was about 8 years old, he was so proud to present this to her." They had married young, and my father was not a wealthy man and couldn't afford much in the way of a wedding ring, but it didn't take long for him to find his way, becoming one of the best lawyers in Izmir. He vowed to give her the finest ring that money could buy." Aziz said softly, with the tear forming in his eyes. " So he had this ring made," He said, holding the ring up in the air for Can to see. " Their love was as bright and brilliant as yours is for Sanem, I know he would be proud for you to have this to give to the love of your life."The ring was silver, with a multitude of diamonds circling the band, the center stone was the rare and expensive pink diamond. It was a beautiful round cut diamond, it still shined like it was brand new. He had never seen anything like it before. Aziz places the ring back in the box, " This is now yours now, you can present this to the woman that has filled your heart with love." He pronounced, hugging his son with love. Can was to emotional to speak for a minute, but finally he asked, " Dad, why didn't you give this ring to mom, when you two married?" It's so beautiful I can't imagine anyone not wanting it." He exclaimed, staring in amazement at the ring. Aziz thought for a while, " Can your mother was not much for antiques, she needed new and bright things, so this would have offended her greatly," and I missed my chance of giving it to someone that meant the world to me, and would have appreciated it many years ago." So it will rest with you now, where I know it will be treasured. The two men hugged for some time, letting a few tears fall, and their bond grow together even more. Can tucked the ring in his pocket and went to his room.
Leila was still trying to come to grips with what Sanem was telling her, when the phone rang. " Oh, it's Can, get out Abla," she said, shooing her sister out the door. " Hello my love, she said, happy to hear his voice. " Hello sweetheart, I had to hear your voice before I went to bed," he stated, " just a few more days and we'll be engaged." He said, whispering into the phone. It gave her a chill, " I know my love, I can't wait." She replied, giggling from the nerves. Can sighed, " I think we should tell your parents about Perú as soon as we get through the engagement ceremony, what do you think? " He stated, still so excited just at the thought of it. She agreed, wanting to get everything out in the open, so they could start preparing for the wedding. " Yes, and I want just a simple ceremony, with just our families, maybe we could have it here in the garden." She suggested. " But I want our first night as husband and wife to be spent at the mountain cabin, can we do that." She asked shyly, with butterflies flying about in her stomach. " I think that can be arranged, Ms. Sanem, we will do what your heart desires." He stated, with a dramatic flair. They both said their good nights and hung up, she lay thinking about her childhood. Nothing could have prepared her for this, this love of someone that meant more than herself. A person that filled her with more than just love, but with dreams and admiration. She thought of the old white mansion that she went to as a young girl, to write, to dream and plan her life in her head. She wanted to show Can the place that had been the sanctuary for her soul. She wanted him to see it and feel it, just as she had so many times, when things seemed against her. That's why she ran there when Adin tried to destroy them,....for strength. She would see if he would go there with her tomorrow, she would show him her past, and then he would know her dreams.
Can took the ring from the box, looking at it again. Turning it in every angle, to see the light dance off the diamonds. He knew his grandparents had a long and happy marriage, for 54 years to be exact. His only regret was not seeing them as much as they could have as a young child. The only thing he had been told was his mother never got along with his grandfather, so their visits were few and far between, leaving him and Emre thinking they didn't love them. He knew better now, but it was to late to fix. He couldn't wait to present the ring to Sanem, he knew she would love it, and it would make him proud to have her wear it. His heart was happy and full, what could be better. He went off to sleep, dreaming of the next days to come, and hoping her parents would understand their love.
The next morning he arrived to pick her up at 8:00. He took a few minutes to say hello to Mr. and Mrs. Aydin, and confirm the time for Saturday. They smiled, " Yes son, 6:00." Nihat said, laughing to himself. He's as nervous as I've seen anyone to be." He thought. He took Sanem and started to the office. She took his hand, " Can, can we go somewhere today at lunch, I want to show you something." She said, leaning her head on his shoulder. The answer would always be "yes" when it came to her, but he was curious, " Absolutely my love, where are you taking me." He asked, kissing her on the top of her head.
" To the most wonderful place in Istanbul......He looked at her, " Really, is it your secret place you told me about?
" Yes, it's the place I first dreamed of you..........
