Carl's POV
I see Maddie and Justice running beside me. I have never seen them run this fast before. Except one time we were all running the mile in gym and they tripped over eachother! I laugh at the memory, then realize what's still happening.
"My house is here." Maddie says, but we all know already, because we hang out everyday after school. We race up the steep driveway and Maddie picks up a key from under a 'Welcome' mat and unlocks the large black door to her house.
"Dad? Mom? Sidney? Taylor?" Maddie yells. No answer.
"DAD! MOM! SID, TAY?????" Maddie yells louder and she starts running up the stairs.
But Justice and I already know they're gone, probably looking for the shelter the school was supposed to take us to.
"We're so stupid! The school buses would have taken us somewhere to meet up with our parents! Now we're all alone." I say quietly so Maddie can't hear me.
"Carl, our parents are safe somewhere, ok? That's all that matters." Justice walks up the stairs and meets back up with Maddie.
Then we hear a groan from the hallway.
