Chapter 3

Win

Why are his brown amber eyes making my insides feel like they're going crazy?

He just admitted he wouldn't want anything serious with anyone and yet here I am wanting him to make an exception on me or the very least for him to look at me the way he's been looking at Karina all night.

How can someone cheat on someone so honest and sweet as him?

He tilts his head a little, searching my eyes and my heart accelerates. He opens his mouth to say something but is soon interrupted by my ex-boyfriend Jake.

Jake wraps his arm around my shoulder, leaning in to kiss my neck. I pull away slightly when I smell the alcohol.

"Woah, dude. Take it down a notch?" I tell him which only causes him to grin and look over at Devon.

My eyes narrow, I should've known he would try to intervene. He's been trying to get back together in the past few parties I've come to. I sit up straighter, more determined than embarrassed. If Jake wants to be an ass then I can totally be an ass to him too.

"Jake, meet Devon, he's my new friend." I turn to Devon and notice he isn't even smiling at Jake, "Devon, this is Jake, my ex."

Jake pulls away slightly, "Win." He says in a warning, but I give him a quick glare. I'm pretty sure Jake came here, trying to make Devon think that we're together.

I look over at Devon who is now looking at Jake's arm around me, "He's a hard one to get rid of. I already told him, we're not getting back together."

I shrug smiling evilly at Jake.

Devon only acknowledges it in a slight "hmm." But just then Jake starts trying to coerce me back to the group. It's almost embarrassing having to deal with him in front of Devon who is silently watching us. Jake's flirting has been going on all night so it's no surprise he didn't spare Devon the flirting he's trying to do, for me to go back with him.

I lean over so I can whisper in Jake's ear in threat, "I'm going home with Wendy. Don't even think I'm going home with you."

His eyes shift to Devon again while he glares at him. Finally looking at me, he sighs heavily, "Fine. Have it your way."

He gets up and walks back over to the group we were hanging out with. Looking back at Devon I see him looking at me amusingly so I chuckle softly.

"What?" I wrap a strand of my hair around my finger.

Shaking his head, he chuckles softly, "You have him wrapped around your finger."

Shrugging, trying to seem nonchalant about the whole Jake situation, I tell him my honest answer, "I'm not leading him on so it's not my problem."

He lifts an eyebrow and smirks, "You're a smart little thing aren't you?"

A giggle escapes me because I wouldn't say I'm little, I've come a long way from being the naïve little girl who lost her virginity to a stupid boy. I notice how his smile falters a little and he sits up straighter.

I bump him with my shoulder trying to get him to relax again, "I'm nineteen, I wouldn't use the word little."

He smiles again a little more comfortable, "I guess I can't judge much. I'm only a year older."

Smiling feeling my heart flutter again as it did when Jo told me a little about him and now with all the information he's given me. I even went and stalked Dez's social media to find him and the man only has pictures of his car, truck, and at the very bottom a family photo when they were all much younger. That didn't give me much else to stalk him and find out more about him.
