Leo made it half way down the stairs before Kye grabbed him by the shoulder almost knocking him to the ground.
"Jesus man," Kye said. "Guess we won't have to work on your stamina too much."
"I've got to go," Leo said turning to leave.
Kye grabbed him again, "no youve gotta stay, Sadie's got your guy on the line."
Leo didn't need to hear anyway he wound past Kye and bolted back up the stairs making it back to his apparent in record time. He didn't say anything just took the phone from her and held it up to his head trying to ignore the fear rising in his stomach. What if Freddie didn't want to talk to him? What if Leo didn't want to hear what he had to say? He took a breath.
"Leo," Freddie's voice came through the line like a prayer.
"Freddie," Leo answered softly.
"Fuck Leo I've been trying to find you."
"My phone died."
"I figured that."
Leo's heart jumped at the smile he heard in Freddie's voice.
"Where are you?"
"Campus."
"I'm coming."
Ready to hand the phone back Leo stopped when Freddie his name again.
"Leo wait. Don't come here. People are well yeah you know."
He did know. People were the reason Leo wasn't still in bed waiting for Freddie to get bored of studying and come back to finish what they began the night before.
"I'll come to you," Freddie suggested.
Kye walked back through the door, having his own phone conversation, a look on his face that said Leo was going to have to sit down with for some kind of debrief very soon.
"No," he answered.
"What Leo? Is everything okay?"
He didn't want to give anything away because he knew Kye was going to try to stop him as soon as he tried to leave.
"Do you still have my guest pass?" Leo asked.
"Yeah do you need it back?"
Leo didn't say anything else, he waited for Freddie to catch up. He usually did, if you gave him a little space. He could almost hear cogs turning in his head until he finally spoke again.
"You want to meet at the centre?"
"That's fine."
"So that's a yes at the centre now?"
"Yes."
"Okay okay see you soon."
"Yes," Leo said hanging up the phone casually handing it back to Sadie who raised an eyebrow in question.
As expected Kye turned to look at him and said, "don't go anywhere we've gotta do the paperwork."
Leo hummed an acknowledgement meant so Kye let his focus slip back to the phone call and Leo took the chance to run back out the door again. He ignored the shouts and pushed himself as much as he could to find the speed to escape Kye and all his responsibilities. He'd give them time later. He needed to see Freddie first.
