Without hanging up on girls, I asked,
"How long have you been standing here?"
Travis: Long enough.Without saying goodbye, I hung up and put my phone in the back pocket.
Abigail: Where are we going?
Travis: You'll see.I jumped from the balcony and we started walking.
Abigail: How much of our conversation did you exactly hear?
Travis: Does it matter?
Abigail: Yes. You were eavesdropping.
Travis: Were you talking about me?I didn't say anything. He probably heard everything. I'm so stupid.
Abigail: How so you didn't come yesterday?
Travis: It's a long story.
Abigail: We have time.
Travis: We don't. We have to catch a train.
Abigail: Train? Where are we going?
Travis: You'll see. After a few minutes' long drive, we were walking through the streets. The lights were on, but there wasn't a lot of people. After half-hour walking, I started being tired.
Abigail: Why are we so far?
Travis: You're not patient as I thought.
Abigail: Why would you think I'm patient?
Travis: If you can read a book for a few days and not knowing the end how can you not walk for half an hour?I didn't have an answer to that question.
Travis: We're almost here.
We were in front of a high, abandoned building.
Abigail: Abandoned building?
Travis: Yes.When we climbed the stairs to the last floor, I saw there are no stairs to go on the roof. There were only ladders that looked a hundred years old. In a few quick moves, Travis was on the roof, looking down at me.
I can't believe I'm climbing hundred years old ladder to go on the roof of an abandoned building. This is crazy. When I was up, I saw the whole city. The lights of the city were shining along with stars and moonlight.
Abigail: This place is beautiful.
He lied down on the ground and said,
"Yeah. I come here to think and watch the city."I lied next to him, looking at the stars.
Abigail: This is the highest building we can be on.
Tarvis: The highest we have access to.
Abigail: Still, it looks amazing.
Travis: Yeah. I haven't seen this view for three years.
Abigail: Three years?
Travis: Yeah. We used to come here every year. Then we skipped three years and here I am again.
Abigail: This is my favorite place now.
Travis: I said the exact same thing when I climbed here for the first time.
Abigail: How old were you?
Travis: 7. But the building was different then. Few people were living in it back then. He's talking like he's hundred years old. I was looking at him lying on my side while he was staring at the stars. He looked like he's thinking about something important. Then he turned and looked at me,
"What?"
Abigail: Nothing. This place is amazing. Then we kissed. Under the stars- sounds like a bad movie I wouldn't watch. His lips were soft and warm and I wanted this moment to last forever.
After a long night of talking, laughing, and looking at stars, the Sun rose. It was wonderful, but also the time for me to go back before my mom wakes up.
Since the doors were locked again, we had to climb the balcony. I'm pretty good at it at this point. What did I turn into? My mom was probably still asleep, but I was full of energy. Like I was actually sleeping at night.
Abigail: Let's go to the beach.
Molly: When did you wake up from death?
Abigail: About an hour ago. Let's go.My mom and I spent the whole day together. We were swimming, eating ice cream, we even visited an aquarium. The Sun fell and we came back home.
Abigail: So, what's next? Movies?
Molly: Actually, I have plans. I mean, we have plans.
Abigail: I don't have anything.
Molly: Yes, you do.At that moment the bell rang.
Molly: Perfect timing.
Paul and Travis were standing at the doors.
Molly: Since Paul and I are going to have dinner with Tuners, we thought you two could meet better.
I was shocked. And so was Travis. With no words, we were standing in the middle of the living room while my mom and his dad went out.
Paul: Have fun.
My mom smiled at me. When they left, I was freaking out a bit.
Abigail: Well, this is new.
Travis: This is weird.
Abigail: Agree.
Travis: So, movie or something else?
Abigail: What?
Travis: We have a whole house for ourselves. For a whole night.
Abigail: Yeah... I guess...
Travis: And it's not like we didn't meet already.I was still a little shocked by my mom leaving me alone in the house with, what she knew, a stranger. After a few minutes, I found myself on the couch next to Travis. We had a big bowl of popcorns and I brought wine again.
Travis: So, what movie do you want?
Abigail: You pick. I don't have anything in mind right now.The movie started and I calmed myself down. I was leaned on Travis's chest, eating popcorn. After a few minutes, I heard steps in front of the house and we both jumped away from each other. My mom entered the house,
"Forgot my phone."
The distance between me and Travis was ridiculous- almost suspicious. But my mom gave us a quick look and exited the house.
Abigail: This was close.
Travis: Too close.Despite we almost got caught, we sat down the way we did a second ago and continued to watch a movie. We were watching Fast and Furious- the movie was great.
I should have watched it when Joy told me to. When I turned to ask Travis what else should we watch, I realized he fell asleep. It wasn't strange- it was 2 a.m. And my mom was still out. That was odd.
Suddenly, my phone rang. I went into the kitchen and picked it up.
Abigail: Hello?
Kelsey: Hi. What are you doing?
Abigail: Me? What are you doing up at 2 a.m.!?
Kelsey: I can't sleep so I wanted to see what are you up to.
Abigail: Nothing. Actually, I have to go.
Kelsey: Why?
Abigail: I'll tell you tomorrow. Sorry. When I got back into the living room, I saw Travis was up.
Abigail: Sorry. It was Kelsey.
Travis: It's okay... Are we gonna sleep or you want another movie? While he was saying that, he yawned.
Abigail: Yeah, you look like you can watch another movie.
Travis: I can, I'm just a little tired...I lied next to him and fell asleep.
