Broken

I was walking through the streets of Dallas for an hour. I wasn't even sure where am I at this point. I found an old building and I started climbing the stairs- not knowing the exact goal.
When I was at the top, I was looking at Dallas's lights. It was wonderful. The moon and the stars were shining. It wasn't as high as in Tampa, but I liked the view. There was no one around me. Just me and my messed up thoughts.

It was around midnight when I got back. Everyone was asleep and the house was silent and dark. While I was walking toward the room, I crashed one of the tables with mom's glass vase on it. Shit. I turned the light on my phone up and put the roses back on the table. I started cleaning shattered glass. Clumsy as I am, I cut myself all over the right hand.

When I put everything in the trash, I saw the glass was in blood- just like my hand. Great, this was the last thing that I needed now. I entered my room, then my bathroom. I was standing in front of the sink while my hand was bloody red. The sink, as well as the floor, was in the blood. Oh shit. When I let the water run, I realized I have about five cuts on my hand. Just perfect. My phone was in blood too, just like my shirt.

Travis: What the hell are you doing?

He entered the bathroom from his room. He was only in grey sweatpants with his hair messy.

Abigail: Nothing. I'm fine.

When his eyes got used to the light, he realized how much blood there was.

Travis: What happened to you?
Abigail: Nothing. It's better than it looks.
Travis: I hope so. It looks like you made a few surgeries in the last hour.
Abigail: Everything is under control.
Travis: Doesn't seem like that.

From the cabinet below, he took the white box with a red cross on it. With my left hand, I took medical alcohol from the drawer.

Travis: Give it to me.

He took the alcohol before I managed to mess it with blood. We were standing in the bathroom while he was opening the box. The water was still running and there was silence between us. The medical alcohol burned my hand and I wanted to scream, but I didn't. With few quick moves, Travis wrapped my hand with white gauze.

Abigail: Now I look like I broke my hand.
Travis: Sorry I never learned to take care of someone who made this mess from a few cuts. What were you doing anyway?
Abigail. Let's just say we have a few roses less in the house.
Travis: Molly's vase. She'll kill you.
Abigail: I hope not.

He got the box and alcohol back to its place and I wiped my phone with a tissue. He started walking back to his room.

Abigail: Travis?
Travis: Yeah?
Abigail: Thanks.
Travis: It's what brothers do.

Yeah. It's what brothers do. I cleaned the floor and the sink.
Lying on my bed, thinking about what happened was the last thing I wanted to do now, but here I am. Staring at the ceiling, not able to sleep. This brother-sister thing is so stupid...

The next morning, I took the gauze off. My mom would freak out if she saw that. The breakfast was great, as always. Everything was okay, except the things were weird between me and Travis. The week passed fast. I met with Kelsey and Joy a few times, but I was mostly in my room.
Monday came. School.

Molly: Good luck today.
Abigail: Thanks, I'll need it.
Molly: And good luck with that job interview you have today.
Travis: Thanks.
Molly: Hope it will go well.
Travis: Me too.

We exited the house and I started walking toward the school. Since we had a schedule on the internet, our first day is like every other. First two classes- math. I hate math. It doesn't make any sense. After math and Sports, I was eating outside with Joy and Kelsey. Suddenly, I saw Travis coming toward me.

Joy: Who's that?
Kelsey: Is he new?
Abigail: I'll be here in a moment.

I walked to Travis,
"What are you doing here?
Travis: Looks like you're happy to see me.
Abigail: Travis?
Travis: Okay, okay. Just come with me.
Abigail: Why?
Travis: You'll see.

I had no idea why, but I took my stuff and started walking with Travis through the school's yard. I could feel everyone around looking at us.

Abigail: How did you even get here?
Travis: You have to know to talk to people.
Abigail: What?
Travis: Doesn't matter. Everything is legal and you won't have any problems tomorrow.
Abigail: I can't believe it. What are we even doing?
Travis: Since I know you would never skip school, I decided to help you a bit.
Abigail: Help me?
Travis: You're skipping school today.

At that moment, I stopped in the middle of a street,
Abigail: No.
Travis: I'll carry you if I have to. But you'll not be in school today.

I was walking behind him. This is so strange. First, things are awkward, and now we're skipping school together. We came to the coffee shop for a few minutes. We both ordered coffee.

Abigail: Why are we doing this?
Travis: Skipping school? Because it's boring.
Abigail: What about your job interview?
Travis: I skipped that too.
Abigail: Why?
Travis: That's boring too.
Abigail: You're crazy.
Travis: I know.
Abigail: You know that our parents will kill us when they find out?
Travis: So what? Did you ever see your mother angry?
Abigail: No.
Travis: Never?
Abigail: No.
Travis: You'll see. It's hilarious.

The rest of the day we pretty much hung out in our house. Kelsey asked me where am I, and I told her I can't talk. I can't wait to tell them about this. I knew I should avoid him and I shouldn't be happy about us spending the day together, but I was. We were watching a movie in the living room when my mom came home.

Molly: Hi. How was school?
Abigail: Never been better.
Molly: And your interview?
Travis: I think I did well.
Molly: That's great. I'll take care of some papers then we can go to eat.
Travis: Sounds great.

I felt like I'm betraying my mom. She always works so hard to make me happy and I skipped school. It was like I stabbed her with a knife in her back.
