Tris' POV

In three days, I'll be on my way to the palace, and I can't cope with it anymore. I lash out at the wall in the alleyway, the rough surface instantly tearing my knuckles apart but I continue.

I can imagine the other girls, turning with perfect hair and dresses to make a good impression, I won't have either. I have two pairs of clothes. The ones I wear everyday, and one to wear to bed that I also wear on washday.

"Hey." Arms that I instantly recognise wrap around my stomach and restrains my arms. "Don't kill you hands before you meet the prince little girl." I struggle uselessly and look up to see the blonde hair and brown eyes of Four, the young man from yesterday, looking down at me.

"I'm not a little girl." I say with a frown.

"Your little and your a girl." He states, still not letting go of me.

"You know, you should be a prison guard or something because you seem to have a thing about grabbing people."

"I'll let you go if you tell me what the wall did to you?"

"It's not the wall..." I say, embarrassed.

"I figured that."

"It's just, first I've got to go to the palace away from my family and try to make some unfortunate prince fall in love with me against 34 other, most likely flawless girls, and two, to make me even more undesirable than I already am, I have to wear my everyday clothes to go to the palace. Not a great first impression." I say with a frown. Four releases me.

"Well, if it helps with your self esteem, your actually really noticeable. In a good way. And," he rubs his hand on the back of his neck. "I knew you wouldn't have any clothes to wear, so I got you some." I spin around to face him.

"You what?" I ask softly.

"I brought you a short dress to wear. I know you don't have to wear your caste colour, so it's light blue if that's okay. And I got you some shoes as well." I'm left gobsmacked that a complete stranger would buy me clothes to wear for the selection.

"Come on, their at my place." He says, turning and beginning to walk. I don't follow.

"How do I know your not going to rape me or something." He chuckles softly and calls to me over his shoulder.

"Tris, honey, if I was going to rape you, I would have done it while you were passed out on the street." And that's enough to make me follow him.
