chapter 1

*Kelly’s POV*
We went home that night, not caring much about the fact that I killed someone and destroyed property. I decided to take a shower, even though I wanted to spend time with my family.
After I showered I went into the kitchen to see Griffin cooking while holding Shannon. I smiled to myself, before taking her. He kissed me, before letting me taste the food. Which it was good, as always.

I walked into Isabelle’s room, which she was sharing with Shannon. I knocked on the door before entering the room.
“Hey”
“Hey.”
“You okay?” I asked.
“Yeah, just happy you're alive. And safe. And that we’re all here as a family.” she started tearing up.
“Come here.” I said, hugging her but also protecting Shannon. She cried for a moment.
“You wanna hold her.” I asked, gesturing to Shannon.
“I don’t want to drop her.”
“You’ll be fine.” I said, handing her off. I heard a click, like from a camera.

I turned around to see Griffin with his phone. He just stood there smiling, he put his phone away and came over to us. He wrapped his arms around me.
“Dinner is ready.” I took Shannon back and we went to eat. I fed Shannon and then myself. I gave her a bath and put her to bed. It was weird having a child, having to take care of another human being. Isabelle showered and went to sleep, then Griffin showered.

He came back into the room, turning out the light. It was pitch black for a moment, which I didn't like. He turned the lamp on and climbed in bed.
“You okay?” He asked, putting his arm around me.
“Yeah. You?”
“Better now that you’re here. But seriously though, how are you. You’ve been through a lot especially within the last few months.”
“I just want to know why when something good happens in our lives, something bad happens. Why can’t we just live our lives and be happy. We have two beautiful kids, and all we want is for them to be safe. I don’t even know if we’ll be able to.” He kissed my head.
“I know. That’s all anybody wants. I know you're scared, so don’t try lying. We’ll get through this. We always do” he said, kissing my head again.

“Why did the doctor take you?” He asked, catching me off guard.
“What?”  I looked at him.
“Why did the doctor take you, why just you?”
“I don’t know I guess it was easier because he was doing the surgery. It was easier to take me. Yeah he had a gun to my head, but” I paused.
“When he told me Shannon died, he said he could get me the help I need. I told him I just needed to get home. That’s when he pulled the gun, then hit me over the head. He told me the baby died due to complications. I thought I just wasn’t meant to have kids.” I said, as tears fell from my eyes.

“Well, you clearly are.” he said, holding me tighter.
“He told us that you had died during the surgery but the baby survived. He even handed me adoption papers.” I looked up at him, getting scared.
“What did you do with them?”
“I ripped them up and threw them away, she was the last thing I had left of you. I wasn’t letting her go. I knew you wouldn’t want me to. I didn’t even think about giving her up.” he said, he started crying which was extremely rare.

“Babe, I’m alive. I’m right here. And I am not going anywhere.” I heard Shannon crying.
“Except there.” I said, getting up. I walked into the girls’ room and grabbed her. Isabelle was already asleep. I walked back in our room, I grabbed her bottle and fed her.
"Yeah, this has been bugging me a bit." Oh God. I thought.
"What is it?" He didn't hear what I was mumbling right?
"How were you able to...do what you did. If you had surgery?"
"I- Well, he was a doctor. So he gave me some medication for the pain......Now that I think about it, I think he knew I would fight him. Or kill him. He wanted me to not feel physical pain, but the realization that Shannon was really alive would hurt me more than the surgery."

“So, you don’t know why he took you?”
“He said it was revenge, for me killing the others. I’m guessing there was a whole ring of them.”
“Did he say how many there were?”
“No. I wouldn’t even know where to start looking. I may see if Abby can run background checks, see if they were in contact with the same people. I also may wanna text dad and ask when I can go back to work.” I grabbed the phone and called him instead, I put the phone on speaker so I could still feed shannon.

“Hey, Kelly, what’s up?”
“Hey dad, I was wanting to know when I can go back to work?”
“You’re on maternity leave for 8 weeks, so when that’s up.”
“So we can’t even hang out there.”
“Y’all can hangout there. You just can’t work any cases, Jenny specifically recommended that you just stay home to take care of your family until you’re ready to come back.”
“Dad, I’m ready now.”
“That’s what I told her. She said if you’re that desperate to come back she can watch Shannon and Isabelle.”
“Really?”
“Yes Kelly. Now I gotta go, I was sleeping.”
“Dad it’s Friday night, and 10:30. Since when do you go to bed that early? Shouldn’t you be working on a boat or something.”
“Bye love you see you tomorrow”
“Okay, bye love you too.” He hung up.

I put Shannon back to bed, then got back in bed. I turned to Griffin.
“He’s lying.”
“How do you know?”
“I don’t know, it’s just a feeling. He said Jenny instead of Director Shepard. He stays up working on some project till like 3 in the morning. Something ain’t right.”
“Well it has been a stressful day, maybe he was just drained.”
“Drained. My dad. Gibbs. Yeah right.”
“You want to get some sleep?” I tensed up. I didn’t answer.
“Are you scared to go to sleep?” I nodded.
“I just don’t want to wake up and Shannon not be here, or Isabelle or you. I don’t want to just be hallucinating.” I said.
“Would it help if you called the team over for a sleepover?”
“It might.”
“Okay, let’s call ‘em” He said. We called everyone over, I called dad last just to annoy him.
“Kelly Marie, this better be good.”
“We’re calling everyone over for a sleepover.”
“Why?”
“Just ‘cause” I said, not telling him everything, my voice also went higher to let him know that I was lying.
“You’re scared to go to sleep aren’t you.”
“Yeah.”
“I’m on my way.”
