The aisle was busy but not crowded, with fruits and vegetables stacked on the racks, customers examining their color and freshness before tossing them into their basket but the emptiness remained there, the emptiness of trust, free spirit, and happiness it left there. Everyone maintained their distance not only physically but emotionally too because attachments only blow them apart, the masks on the faces were a barrier not only from the virus but also from the exchange of emotions.
These were the feelings swiveling inside Ahana's waves of thoughts while she was choosing the oranges but being so lost in her thoughts she forgot about her surroundings and unintentionally her fingers grazed over someone else hands, the contact of the cold skin on her warm finger pads was so slight that it could have been overlooked on any normal situation but unfortunately, it was not.
She quickly retrieved her hand and looked at the owner of the cold skin, amber eyes stared back at her brown ones, the face below the eyes was covered with a black face mask which contrasted with his ivory skin, and the messy mop of brown hair almost reached his eyes.
"Sorry", mumbled Ahana looking away as if she couldn't maintain eye contact with those piercing amber ones.
He nodded then they resumed their examining after moments of breath, they both were still standing there when Ishaan mustered up the courage to ask the girl with short raven black hair put into a low-pony with the electric blue streak of hair on show, warm honey color skin, and those warm brown eyes, he couldn't miss the beauty mark , a small mole just below the arc of her right eyebrow while the rest of her face was covered in a black face mask similar to him.
"Er-Excuse me, do you have a hand sanitizer?" he asked with a sheepish smile even though it was covered inside the face mask.
She turned towards him and after two blinks she deciphered his words, "Yeah sure", and reached for her purse and took out the life-saving potion and handed it to him.
He took it and poured two small drops on his palms and returned it before rubbing it on both his hands, Ahana did the same and kept it in her purse where it was.
"Sorry I didn't mean to offend you, I was just taking the precautions. You know, don't want to die so young", Ishaan explained and ended it humorously.
"No, it's okay. It is good that you are taking precautions. Moreover, I don't want to die young too", she reasoned and they both shared a hearty laugh, though their lips weren't visible their eyes revealed it all.
And after taking the last orange, Ahana bid her goodbye, "It was nice meeting you."
"You too ", returned Ishaan and waved his hand at her.
