(Disclaimer: Pokemon belongs to Nintendo and Game Freak. I do not own Pokemon.)

Of course Eve had an advantage, being a higher-leveled Pokemon, but May's Mudkip seemed to hold itself longer than I expected it to. May clearly didn't understand that if you want to win, go on the attack, not use Growl over and over.

Eve knocked it out with Swift, then bounded back to me. I patted her head and she purred.

May pouted. "Aww, I wanted to win."

Danny butted in from the ledge she was sitting on. "You would've, had you not used Growl on and on. Ella goes head on."

May nodded and became her happy self again. "Hey, can I scan your Eevee in my PokeDex?"

"Sure. Can I scan Mudkip?"

"Yeah," She turned to Danny. "What Pokemon do you have?"

"A Fennekin."

"Can I scan it, too?"

"Um, I guess."

We scanned and ran back to Oldale Town, where we healed our Pokemon. May brought up how Norman was a gym leader and how I should challenge him.

"Oh, uh, I don't know about that..."

"C'mon! You can beat him."

"Maybe later. But not right now, maybe after some training."

"Then battle a few other gyms like Roxanne's and Brawly's to bring up Eve and Blade's stats before battling Dad."

I shrugged. "I guess I can do that. I mean, I'll have to do it eventually."

May nodded, and was about to say something else when her watch sa tryed to beep. "Oops, gotta run. Proffessor Birch needs me back in Littleroot to give him all the data I've collected."

And with that, she was off.

I shook my head at her bubbly, charismatic ways and turned to Danny.

"So what should we do now?"

"Should we go ahead and go to Petalburg to see if there's any trainers wanting to battle?"

"Yeah, why not?"

Danny laughed and grabbed the strap of my backpack, pulling me behind her.

"C'mon! You're slower than a Snorlax!"

"Am not!"

"Are too!"

"Am not!"

"Are t-" The weird Pokemon prints guy interrupted her before she could finish.

"I thought I was sketching some rare Pokemon prints... It turned out they were my own footprints!"

Danny's hand immediately went to her forehead as she facepalmed. I was dying of laughter.

The guy looked offended, then he took off, mumbling something about ignorant teenagers.

"Hey, we can go through the route now!"

"Well, nah."

"Shut up."

We bounced down the route a little ways before we came across a lady, who eagerly challenged Danny to a battle.

I didn't pay much attention, though, because Eve was watching two twins play farther down the path.

'I hope they don't have Pokemon.' I thought to myself. I had heard of twins challenging trainers to double battles. Then again, Danny and I could easily beat two little girls.
