Question: how do we know when autumn is on its way?

The clues to watch out for.....

Part 1.1: the leaves change colour on the trees.

Some trees aren't evergreen. your knowledge from school would tell you the differences between coniferous Tree forests and deciduous trees. Deciduous forests of tress, such as oak trees allow their leaves to lose the chlorophyll pigment in them in order to change colours, from green to orange, brown or red. This is the yearly fall on the deciduous forest trees, oak trees take their time for they are the last tree to let their leave drop, as time allows the leaves to turn gold slower than the other deciduous trees.

Maple trees are indeed deciduous trees, but they're characterised by the iconic red leaves we see on the flag of Canada. The sugar maple trees have been known to turn from burnt orange to red. Here's the leaf of a sugar maple tree in the fall.

We have explained deciduous forest trees, and that they're able to drop their leaves in the fall when they lose the chlorophyll pigment. Now we move to the coniferous evergreen trees, that are green all year round, as they carry more water and have a waxy layer on them and that insured a second growth in spring.

Conifers refer to plants that have come like seeds instead of flowers that act as their seeds.

Some conifers are also seen as Christmas trees because of their lush green cone like spines that hold the decorations for the tree on the branches. Spruce and pine trees are two examples of evergreen conifers. In the fall however, the cone-like seeds of pine trees drop off. The two trees that drop seed cones in the fall are the scotch pine and common juniper.
