History of Scotland's Patron Saint

An apostle of Jesus Christ, and brother of Saint Peter.

Andrew the Apostle, also called Saint Andrew, was an apostle of Jesus according to the New Testament. He is the brother of Saint Peter. He is referred to in the Orthodox tradition as the First-Called. According to Orthodox tradition, the apostolic successor to Saint Andrew is the Patriarch of Constantinople.

He died in Greece, circa 60AD as he was sentenced to death by crucifixion.

StAndrew's Day is all about celebrating Scottish culture, and food is a big part of that celebration. Traditional dishes served might include cullen skink, haggis, lamb, neeps and tatties, and more.

Highland Dancing

As a part of Scotland and her fair culture, dancing the Highland way celebrates Scottish roots, on the Patron Saint's feast day.

Poetry is very big in Scotland's heritage and culture, the most famous bard of Scotland, is Robert Burns, not only his works are recited on the day of his birthday, which is celebrated in January, but also it is optional to read poetry on St Andrew's Day as well.
