Winds turn Colder
You know when the fall comes when you shudder due to the wind turning colder to adhere to the cooler to colder weather coming through. You know it comes from the South West. This paragraph from the website of National Geographic, will explain more about the Global Prevailing Winds of the fall.
Generally, prevailing winds blow east-west rather than north-south. This happens because Earth's rotation generates what is known as the Coriolis effect. The Coriolis effect makes wind systems twist counter-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
What makes the Winds colder for fall?
Here is why...
One of the reasons behind the autumnal gales is at this time of year the earth is tilted so that the sun is over the equator. This means that the poles are cooling down whereas the sub tropics remain very warm, creating a massive temperature contrast over our half of the globe.
That being the case, that's when we put all of our summer clothing and kids outdoor toys away in the shed until next Spring. Also all of us feel colder when Autumn starts, we also put our summer clothing away and swap them with clothes made for the season.
How to determine speed and direction of fall winds....
Wind speed and wind direction can be measured with a variety of tools. The most common, included with complete home weather stations, is the anemometer, which typically consists of a rotating vane to measure direction and a shaft with cups attached that spins with the wind to measure its speed. Commonly one farm roofs of farmer's cottages and some rural areas, they have a roof weather vane.
In some beach or naval base, wind speeds are able to be seen using a weather wind detector called a wind sock. This inflates when winds are higher in the cold weather months, but mild winds and breezes in the Spring and Summer makes it inflate less.
When the winds turn colder, it counteracts the heat of the sun, and that's when you know fall is just around the corner.Fall usually sees in some dangerous gale force winds at spores up to 60-80kph, and this means that you can never be more cautious when these winds reach these ridiculous speeds and could blow you away if you are not careful.
To make sure you know your wind speeds in fall, we have a special type of scale that tells us what type of wind we are dealing with. This is known as The Beaufort Scale. Image below, which tell us which wind is which according to its speeds.
Wind speed, like ship speed, is measured in Knots.
The higher the wind speed is, in knots, the more likely that a hurricane or a gale force wind can happen.
The four wind types:
The Four Major Wind Systems and Wind Belts: The four major wind systems are the Polar and Tropical Easterlies, the Prevailing Westerlies and the Intertropical Convergence Zone. These are also wind belts. There are three other types of wind belts, also.
So, bear that in mid, all year round and you'll have a huge advantage.
