What is the observation of the Autumnal Equinox?

Origin: Ancient Greek/Chinese

Why?

Greek Mythology: To the ancient Greeks, the September equinox marks the return of the goddess Persephone to the darkness of the underworld, where she is reunited with her husband Hades. Chinese Harvest Moon Festival: The full moon that falls closest to the autumnal equinox is sometimes called the Harvest Moon.

The meaning of the word Equinox

This word is made up of two Latin root words aequus and nox meaning "equal night" referring to the fact that daylight and night time are equal in duration.

Traditions and observation

As leaves turn yellow and fruits and vegetables ripen, most traditional celebrations of the autumnal equinox, when day and night are nearly equal, are associated with harvest.

Harvest

In the Bible, Christians believe that the equinox brings the harvest moon that starts their festival of the Harvest

In the Bible, Christians believe that the equinox brings the harvest moon that starts their festival of the Harvest. Here's why:

Harvest Festival is a celebration of the food grown on the land. ... Harvest Festival reminds Christians of all the good things God gives them. This makes them want to share with others who are not so fortunate. In schools and in Churches, people bring food from home to a Harvest Festival Service.

Change, maturity and adaptibility

We learn to adapt, through the fall, to the changing weather and harvest, also, maturity brings about giving back during the season to those less fortunate. Which is the true meaning of harvest. When the leaves change, we too.must make a change as well to ensure our survival to adapt well.

This equinox ls the perfect way to observe these changes in ourselves, the weather and how to make the most of our food we produce as well.

Traditions:

For Christians, the equinox is also known as Michaelmas, or the feast of the angel Michael and his angels.

The Christian celebration closest to the September equinox is Michaelmas, also known as the Feast of Michael and All Angels, on September 29. These days, Michaelmas is a minor festival mainly observed in the Catholic church. (Again, theloneskywalker is my inspiration for some of the Christian influences in this book.)

In Asia and China, The Equinox is also their festival of the Moon

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a festival celebrated notably by the Chinese and Asian people. It is also related to Chuseok and Tsukimi. The festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar with a full moon at night, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.
