Soundwave's secret (Transformers)Chapter 38.
Soundwave stared at the data pad held in her servo. It seemed that Thrust's attempts to test her codes resulted in more fuss among the security force than she had predicted.
"RedAlert and I made the adjustments. But it would be appreciated, if you had a look... I know you do not want to be a part of it but the High Command insisted I showed these to you. After all, the virus was your creation."
'Since when does the High Command trust me with these matters...'
Soundwave did not say that out load but her message was clear in the long stare directed at the presented information and the then no less long one directed at the obviously uncomfortable Blaster. Dreadwing was by her side as well. He had joined her when she left the rec room. FirstAid spent more time in the medbay recently, completing some extra chores as he had explained, so Soundwave had been alone with her symbiot when the Autobot flier approached. Dreadwing, with her silent permission, joined the walk through the base and never asking for her destination, politely followed. It seemed he once again was checking the quality of her experience on the base. It was much easier to talk now that she did not use the recordings with him. Now, not far from the exit to the city, in the threshold Blaster met them, she stood holding the annoyingly-officially written report. With the statement insisting on her assistance it was insulting how it tried to soften the order at the end of this clean document, not intended for her but featuring her name and planned for her overview.
Blaster failed to hold through her stare and gave a deep sign.
"Soundwave, listen. You and I have a history. I've seen quite a few of your tricks. But that glitched virus? I do not know what you had programed. Thrust now has it. We both know 'Cons will try something soon. This attack? It was a joke-work. It was not that standard thing we used to throw at each other. We cannot just wait for 'Cons to have an upper hand again. Like it or not but the command will pressure you further and you will have to assist us. I really don't want to make it hard for ya'. You helped us and now we know you have also saved some 'Bots before and Jazz says ya' are a decent femme, so I kinda believe that you aren't planning to doom us and all-..." He stopped the rumbling and paused trying to collect his thoughts. Blaster, surprisingly did not seem to have any 'hard feelings' regarding the professional past they shared in the war of technological and communicative coding. Thinking about it, Soundwave though that perhaps this mech was the one who actually knew her the most. What bothered Blaster was the conversation, its topic and not the femme he had to interact with.
"Listen. You and your guys asked for our protection. We gave it to ya' but if you cannot offer anything regarding this matter soon mechs will get mad..."
"I thought that the High Command had guaranteed her neutrality."
Soundwave mentally thanked Dreadwing for that.
"Optimus did but now more high-ranked officers processed the matter. Don't forget there are mechs that are not in Iacon. Even those who agreed on neutrality, due to security reasons demanded High command to at least use Soundwave's skills... Even Optimus cannot do anything about it. Soundwave, you must understand..."
"~Assistance will be provided once required.~Codes.~Will not be shared.~"
"I don't get why? You aren't a 'Con anymore. It will be for your own benefit to help us, we are sheltering you and your guys."
She froze and Dreadwing straightened unsurely. What Blaster was telling was reasonable. But having talked with Soundwave Dreadwing had figured out that she saw borders between fractions in a much blurrier way. He knew how it could feel, having himself experience similar thoughts during his mission in Kaon. But his loyalties were clear as light. The once made decisions and understanding of where he stood kept his mind clear of doubts. It seemed that with Soundwave the matter was different. It did not mean that she would go back to Decepticons. Dreading did not believe that. Even if it could be safe and possible for her. She had obviously been disappointed in what her fraction had become. But the wish to stay neutral revealed the doubts and uncertainties. Dreadwing knew femmes were in general softer and more fluent in the matters of sparks but he had to admit he had not expected such from Soundwave. But it seemed that the femme was still struggling to find her place within the blurred vision of the world she saw, where a fraction did not dictate the intentions of a mech or femme. She herself was a true example of such belief...
