The Surprise

Some time had passed and Toph and I moved to the recently made Republic City to live closer to Toph's workplace. I woke up around 8am, and I was getting dressed in my attire for the day, and I walked into the kitchen and 'saw' Toph cleaning up a bowl of cereal on the table. "Again?" She chuckled at me. "Yea, again." I then call out into the living room. "Lin?" And I then hear footsteps rapidly approaching me and I crouched down to pick her up and spin her around. "Aaaaaaaah my little Badgermole! Did you sleep well?" she giggles and answers. "Yes Daddy." I chuckle and ask her. "Why didn't you clean up your cereal after you were done?"

"Uuuuuuuuuuuuummmmm." "Liiiiin?" Toph said. "I was wanting to go play with Lumia." "Sweetheart you have to clean up your mess after eating. This is a rule in the house, and you know this." "Okay mommy." I give her a big kiss on the cheek, and I set her down. "Remember Gran Gran (l/n) will be visiting us from Ba Sing Se later tonight okay?" She runs off and calls back saying okay. I take a deep breath and walk over to Toph. "For being three years old, she really is just a ball of pure energy." "Ya don't say do ya?" I laugh and give her a punch on the shoulder, and she does the same. "Now hurry up babe, you're gonna be late for work." Toph then grabs her keys and starts walking to the door. I give her a little love tap on the ass and she smacks my hand away with a giggle. "I love you, Toph." "I love you to (y/n)."

As soon as she left, I walk into the living room where Lin and Lumia, our pet dog, are playing. I tell Lin to come sit with me as I show her something cool. "Now Lin, remember what I said last night okay?" "Yup! (whispers) Don't tell Mommy." I laugh and nod my head. I pull out a piece of what Sokka calls "Space Rock" from my pocket and I hold it in my hands. I bend it into two pieces and give one to her. "Remember, you're making a diamond shape. I am making a ring shape okay?" She giggles and says okay.

With gentle ease I craft a ring shape out of the material that is just the right size. While Lin was having some minor difficulties bending the shape, but it was fine since she was just starting. Eventually, she got the shape roughly 80% of the way there, and I helped with the finishing touches. Later, into the day, Aang with his kids Bumi and Kya were able to stop by and give their contribution to the surprise. "Did you get it carved?" "Don't worry (y/n), I got it right here." He handed me a piece of gem that I ran my finger across and felt the insignia.

"Earth, thanks Aang." And I wrap him up in a big hug. "Of course (y/n)." I asked if he's sure he's free tonight and he assured me that he is. I give him a punch on the shoulder, and he laughs and called for his kids that ran in to see Lin. They scurry back to Aang and say their goodbyes. I walk back into the living room and sit next to Lin. I hold the ring and diamond and hand the gem to Lin. "Okay sweetheart, hold the gem very still, I'm going to connect all three pieces together now." "Okay Daddy." I concentrate and start melding the pieces together until the process is complete. "Congratulations Lin, you've made an engagement ring for mommy."
