(Y/n Pov)
Suyin cuts in from behind me, "She's in her room being her, sour, sulking, and pretty bicthy." "My Lin?" "Yea, she became very authoritarian when I was born apparently." I was very confused hearing that Lin had changed this dramatically since I had left home. "May I go see her?" She and Opal take my hands and they show the way to Lin's room. Upon arriving there, they back up to give some space, and I knock on the door. "Lin...?" I knock again and then I hear it crack open. "D...dad?" "(chuckle) Hey Lin." She opens the door and invites me inside, just me, which I do not understand.
"Why did you only let me in?" "Suyin is just hiding who she really is from everyone here, including her own family. She was reckless, defiant, and always on the opposition against me." I chuckle and pat her shoulder. "Sounds like your mother and I when we were young." "Really?" "Of course! When I first met your mother, she was just as bad as what you're describing Suyin, but you were also like that as a child." She turns away, "I grew up dad, but Suyin has not." "Oh, my little Badgermole..." and I put my hand on her shoulder. "Don't call me that!" I am taken aback by this and retract my arm.
"I'm not your Little Badgermole anymore. After you abandoned us in Republic City, I was no longer that title to you." 'Abandoned...?' I feel my heart sink as she is telling me this and I just lower my head. "If...you say so Lin, th...then I will just...leave." And I walk out of the room, back outside to Suyin and Opal. After I close the door, I feel Lin hit the ground on her knees and begin to cry. Suyin and Opal try to go to the door, but I just put my hand up. "No, let her cry. She just had some built-up anger towards me. She'll be fine in the morning...hopefully."
The next morning was a little slow but entertaining. I spoke to my grandkids and played them a few songs and thankfully I was not the only one enjoying the time. "Grandpa (l/n), can you tell us about how you met Grandma Toph?" Opal asked. I sat back in my chair and stroked my long, probably forearm length, beard. "Well...how do I begin?"
(BRIEF FLASHBACK)
"I set out on a narrow way many years ago. Hoping I would find true love along the broken road...But I got lost a time or two, wiped my brow and kept pushing through...I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you."
--"That sounded and looked amazing!" ... "Well, thank you. The name's (y/n), and who do I have the pleasure of meeting?"--
--"I'm Katara, and this is my brother Sokka, Aang, and Toph."--
--"So, you're blind eh?"--
--"I like him."--
(END OF FLASHBACK)
I get knocked back into the present by one of my grandkids saying my name. "Oh, I'm sorry kids, but I just got caught up in my mind. Your grandmother was an astonishing young lady when we met, and I never thought that I had the opportunity to have a life with her." "So, why did you leave them then?" I pause again and lose myself in my memories again.
(BRIEF FLASHBACK)
--"I...killed...Aang and Sokka... Their deaths are my fault."--
--"It's not your fault." "Yes, it is." "It's not your fault." "Yes, it is." "It's not your fault." "Yes, it is." "It's not your fault (y/n)."--
--"Yes. It. Is. Toph..." "God damn it (y/n) just listen to me and understand that it's not your damn fault!!" "TOPH! JUST STOP!!"--
--"Alright, so this is how it's gonna be then? BRING IT!!"--
--"(voice breaking sobs) I'm so sorry (y/n)! Oh, spirits I'm so sorry!! (loud sobs)"--
(END OF FLASHBACK)
"(clears throat) Well...kids, she and I had an...argument that ended very...bloody on my end." And I roll up my sleeves to show my scarred riddled arms and point at the scars on my face and I hear them gasp. "Sounds like you got the short end of the stick grandpa." I chuckle to myself. "I wasn't trying to hurt your grandma. I was making sure that she got her anger out and I was there to take it. After that, I told her that we need time to recover at our own paces, and I packed my things and gave her my farewells and said until we meet again." I hear Opal sniffle, and I pat the top of her head and give her a smile.
"It's okay Opal, I still love your grandmother just as much as I did the day I told her I loved her." I hear the other kids awe at me and I wave them off. "Alright, that's enough storytelling for one day, Now, how about a little game of Power Disc?"
