The next day had arrived, and the ball was in full session. Evie was standing beside her father and curtsying politely every time a Prince came to meet her.
"Do you see any princes?" Her father asked her.
"I see lots of princes." She told him while scanning the ballroom for the man she had met the previous day. "But none of them that attract me."
"Come on, Genevieve. There has to be at least one Prince in here that stands out from the rest." Her father said. "What about Prince Chad of Cinderellasburg? He's charming, good-looking, and he appears to like you."
"I don't know father. Chad just isn't the one for me." Evie told him.
And it was that moment that Prince Chad and his father came up to them.
"Your majesties! Prince Chad and King Charming!" A guard announced them.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Princess Genevieve." Chad said bowing as he took her hand and kissed it.
Evie smiled politely at him, even though she saw nothing in Chad.
"Genevieve, why don't you go dance with Chad." Her father suggested.
Evie put on another fake smile as Chad took her hand and led her to the floor so they could dance. The orchestra began to play as Chad led Evie in the waltz.
"So, what is your kingdom like?" Evie asked striking up a conversation while they danced.
"It's a nice kingdom." He replied. "A rather clean one actually. The gates leading to my castle are so clear you can see your reflection in them. My castle is very big, I might add. So many rooms you can't even count them. We've got hundreds of maids and butler's waiting on us hand and foot.."
As Chad continued his babbling, Evie wasn't even really paying attention to anything he was saying anymore. But that was when she caught sight of a familiar face. And she stepped away from Chad, confusing him in the process, as she walked up to Henry.
"You came." She said.
"Of course I did. No way was I gonna miss seeing you again." Henry replied.
Evie smiled for real at him. "Come dance with me." She said grabbing his hand.
"Aren't I supposed to ask you, my princess?" Henry asked.
"Then ask me."
"May I have this dance, Princess Evie?" He asked bowing as he kept hold of her hand.
"You may." She answered before following him back over to the floor and they danced to the music that was playing.
Evie's father watched her dance with the man whom he had never seen before. "Do you know who that is?" He asked King Charming who was still standing next to him.
"I'm afraid not," King Charming replied. "But whoever he is, the princess really seems to like him."
Evie couldn't help but smile as she looked into Henry's eyes as they waltzed as if they were the only ones in the world.
"You know, I've never been in love before." Evie told him. "But now that I've met you, I now understand what love truly is."
"I never understood what beautiful meant, until I met you." He said. "But now I know that you're not just beautiful, you are stunning. Like an angel. And you will always be my angel."
Evie's smile only grew bigger after hearing those words. And once the music stopped, Evie kept her grip on Henry's hand and led him outside to the garden.
"This has always been one of my favorite places in the castle." She told him as they say down on a stone bench. "Henry, I don't know if you feel the same for me. But I don't want a prince. I've never wanted a prince. I want you. You are my prince."
It was then that Evie leaned in to kiss him. And without hesitation, Henry kissed her back. And they both swore they felt some sort of sparks in their bodies. Evie felt as if electricity had surged through her veins. And finally, they broke apart.
"Evie, you don't have to worry. I do feel the same." He told her. "From the moment I laid eyes on you, sitting beside the lake."
"Then let's go tell my father." Evie said standing up. "I want you to be the one I marry."
"Are you sure?" Henry asked before they walked back into the castle.
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life." Evie told him before grabbing his hand and leading him back into the castle and up to her father.
"Father, I'd like you to meet Henry. He's the one I've chosen to marry." Evie told her father as she hugged his arm.
Her father smiled at them. "So this is the lucky man." He said. "So Henry, tell me, what kingdom are you from?"
Henry drew in a breath not knowing what he should say. "I'm from...a..faraway kingdom." He said.
"Well, what's the name of this faraway kingdom?" Henry knew he had to come up with something. And fast. "Are you deaf?! What kingdom are you from?!" He yelled getting frustrated.
Henry knew he couldn't lie. "I'm not from any kingdom. I'm not even a prince." He said.
Evie's father looked like he could explode. "Genevieve Isabella Queen! I told you that you were to marry a prince, I made that very clear! I am not going to allow a poor man, a nobody, to take my throne. I forbid you to ever see if speak to this man again! Guards! Take this man away, I never want to see him again. And mark my words, if I ever see you with my daughter again, I will personally throw you in my dungeon in my dungeon." The king spat in his face before the guards basically threw him out of the castle.
"Daddy no! Don't hurt him! I love him!" Evie yelled trying to get her father to stop.
"This is what happens when you don't listen to me." He told her. "You will be marrying Prince Chad, and he will take your place and be your king."
Evie looked at her father with tears falling down her cheeks before she ran out of the castle. She saw Henry walking away. "Henry!" She called out.
Henry turned around to see Evie running towards him. "Evie, what are you doing?" He asked. "Are you trying to get us into more trouble? Look Evie, I love you and I always will. But you heard your father and what he said. We can never see each other." He said.
"No, you can." She said making him furrow his brow in confusion. "Come back tomorrow night. Don't come in the castle, but by my window, and I will see you tomorrow." She pulled him in for one more kiss, making Henry smile.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He said before walking away.
Evie knew that she could never be happy with Chad, she had to find a way to be with Henry. Somehow, she would find a way. Love always finds a way.
