"I hate fishing," muttered Chinny. She was staring at her mounted fishing pole while the Father, her grandpa Ina, and her Papa were lounging on lawn chairs in a large fishing boat off the coast of Lalovaea.
The Father cracked open three beers and passed them to Papa and Ina.
"What's so bad about fishing? It's very relaxing and you get a feeling of satisfaction every time you catch a fish," the Father smiled.
"Yeah. Don't get so 'futless', kid. It's really a good thing to do," winked Ina.
Papa leaned over and kissed Chinny on the forehead before passing her a flask of apple juice.
"Hey...Don't knock it until you try it, okay?" he grinned lovingly before sitting back down.
"Oh, alright I'll try. But this fishing crap is for the birds, man. All you do is get the line ready, mount it and wait all day. And I can't even drink!" complained Chinny.
The three Divine beings chuckled amusingly. Chinny glanced at them and huffed in exasperation.
"There you three go again. Talking smack about me telepathically. That's so goddamn irritating," she grumbled.
"Hey! I said watch your mouth. You swear too much," scolded Papa.
"If it were swearing then I'd be promising a lot of shit! That's what swearing is, duh! I say bad words because my mommy said it's okay to swear. She said if the word is offensive, it's only offensive because that person gives the word the power to offend them," retorted Chinny with indignance.
The Father chuckled and checked his line. "The kid's got a point, brothers."
"I wonder who her mother is," said Ina.
"I don't know. She's a mundane, but her words are Divinely profound. Even her thoughts are pretty deep. I've seen them myself," stated Papa.
"I guess she'll soon find out who she is if she awakens. That'll at least give us a leg up on who the woman truly is," replied the Father.
Just then, three dolphins jumped out of the nearby water and Chinny giggled.
The Father leaned over to her and grabbed her arm. "Did you see that over there, kid? That was a family of three. A mama, a daddy, and a baby dolphin. Did you like that?" he smiled.
"Uh, huh! They're a family, Father?" inquired Chinny in extreme interest as she stood up by the railing to catch another glimpse of the spectacle.
"Yes they are. Dolphins often mate for life and they have their families together," explained Papa.
"They are ALWAYS together? What if one of them gets lost?" asked Chinny.
She was tugging on her fishing line and was dejected to not have any bites to her line quite yet.
"Well...they have other families called pods who will band together to find their lost. They especially do that for their young," replied the Father.
"I bet the little ones get 'sasa'ed' afterward," joked Ina.
Chinny's eyes widened in wonder and stood there in silence, staring off towards the ocean's horizon before she spoke.
"Papa? Am I lost?" she asked quietly.
All three Divines glanced at one another before Papa spoke.
"Do you think you're lost? Didn't you choose your mother already, child?"
"I didn't choose my mother. We chose each other, okay?" firmly stated Chinny.
"Sorry. I stand corrected," smiled Papa.
Just then, Chinny sniffed and realized another thing before talking again.
"Is my daddy lost? I mean...I DO have a daddy, right?"
Once again, the Divines glanced at one another before the Father spoke up.
"Of course you have a daddy. He's probably out there somewhere looking for you. And we'll make sure you find him, alright sweetheart?" The Father hugged Chinny before Papa made his way to her.
He too hugged her and pulled out his wallet. He rummaged through it and showed her a faded picture of two beautiful mortal Polynesian brothers. They were not in there Divine form, but were still beautiful to the naked eye.
Just then, Chinny gasped and smiled in utter happiness.
"That's him! He's my father! How did you find him Papa?" she giggled as she plucked the photo from Papa.
Papa appeared confused for a few seconds before chuckling with a knowing look in the other two Divine's direction.
"Which one is your father, child? I just want to know," asked the Father.
She pointed to one of the brothers and then hesitated in confusion. After a few seconds, Chinny closed her eyes and pointed to the other brother.
"Um...they both look the same so I'd have to say...Eeny-Meeny-Miney-Moe--"
The three Divines chuckled amusingly while Chinny contemplated further. She finally opened her eyes after making her selection and laughed happily.
"He's my daddy! Oh! I love him so much! I have to find him so he can love me back and THEN I'll be a real girl!" she giggled.
Something in that statement caused the three Divine being's hearts to ache for a few seconds before they all collected themselves in amusement.
"Okay. Are you sure he's your father, Chinny?" asked Papa. He chuckled after Chinny hugged him tight.
"Yes! I felt it in my heart and soul! And guess what, y'all?" she asked excitedly while she hugged the photo to her chest.
"What would that be, child?" grinned the Father.
"I'm gonna find him and he's gonna recognize me too! He's gonna love me and my mommy and we'll be a family forever and forever! Yup! That's exactly what's gonna happen!" she laughed.
Papa shared a contemplative glance with the Father and Ina in that moment and decided to humor her for her sake.
"Alright. So, he's your father, huh?"
"Yup!"
"Okay, I guess he is then. The child never lies," smiled Ina.
"Yeah, but the imagination on this kid is tremendous," whispered the Father.
Suddenly, the Father's line tugged and all of them rushed up to the large mounted fishing pole to pull the line in. It took the strength of all three Divines to pull in their catch.
They all gasped as it floundered onto their boat deck. It was a golden marlin. Not only was it golden, but it was the most coveted marlin in Lalovaea. After they pulled the line out of its mouth, they all released it back into the ocean waters.
"What the fuck? Why'd we let it go?" breathed Chinny in exhaustion after they sent it back into the warm waters.
"Because, child. We're going to take that as a sign that we're moving in the right direction and that this conversation was Divinely guided. Now...let's see that photo again," stated the Father with renewed determination.
Chinny hesitantly handed it to the Father and he shook his head in amusement.
"So, Papa? They're yours, huh? Interesting. Truly interesting," summated the Father as Ina chuckled in amusement as well.
The faded photo was none other than Papa's mundane grandsons Adam and Tanu in the mortal realm and the selection Chinny made as her father was also none other than...Tanu.
