I was holding a mug to my chest, overlooking the city. The bright sun lit up the tiled floor and I brought the mug to my lips, taking a sip of the steaming, brown liquid.
A dark cloud had covered the sky, the sun being winked out.
The first scream made me jump, the coffee splashing onto my grey shirt. I cursed at the hot blistering pain, but it subsided quickly. I was more prepared for the second scream, the mug not spilling any of it's contents.
But what I was not prepared for, was the scaly beast that climbed up a tall building. Its tail had a spiky end, talons gleaming and it's scaly wings flared, preparing for flight.
More beasts poured into the sky and I dropped the mug, clay shattering on the ground. The coffee splattering and staining the tiles.
I ran, jumping down the apartment stairs of my work.
"What's happening?" One of my colleagues asked. Choosing to ignore him, punching open the glass cabinet that contained swords, my work was a fighting and weapons company, and I grabbed a sword as I threw open the glass door and sprinted out.
There was one continuous thought rolling around my head; Get to Page.
Page is my little sister, only five and a half. She was at the day care, right in the heart of the city, also happening to be where the source of the demon's were located.
More screams rang through the streets, but I didn't care about them. My only priority is Page. I would drown in guilt if she so much as got touched-
My thoughts were interrupted as a green, scaly demon swiped it's claws, aiming for my head.
I ducked and ran away from it, that thought ringing out through my head. Another human had distracted it.
I went for the edge of the battle, where few of the monsters had gone. It would leave a straight path to Page's Day care.
The screeching of steel against scales could burst your ear.
Alarms began sounding from nearby buildings. All the local schools and day cares in a lockdown. It wouldn't stop the demons from smashing through the pretty little windows.
There was a pipe on the side of the Day care, I reckoned I could climb it. I'd be able to get onto the roof from there, then open the sky light, then take Page to safety. I would perhaps come out and fight for the city.
A bright, white glow filled the air. I blinked up at the source of that light. Another portal. It was a couple of buildings away. The city couldn't handle another demon portal, we would be dead within minutes, hours if lucky -
I gaped at what I saw...No, it can't be.
A beautiful male flew out, his feathery wings as white as snow, hair same colour as his wings, eyes so blue I could see them from where I was standing.
It was an Angel portal, and flying out was a hell of a lot of angels.
All the angels were in pale gold armour, their wings a variety of shades; pale blue, grey, white, browns. Their formation was... Amazing. The flanks were strong, the front was taking demon's down with their shields.
I kept running, kept heading straight for the middle of the raging battle. demon's tried to attack me from all sides but I was too nimble, too agile for those claws.
My blood red hair came out of its pony tail, swishing behind my leather jacket. I groaned. Now was the best time for my hair to untie.
Now is not the time to worry about those gorgeous angels and my stupid hair.
I began my way up the pipe. Sweat was streaming down my back, despite the brisk temperature.
I was almost at the top when a huge as hell demon leapt onto the roof of the Day care. Fine, I thought. I'll do it old school.
I hauled myself onto the roof, landing in a steady crouch. I drew my sword. I was ready. If I died today, I would be proud that I went in battle, saving my little sister...
So I stood up and began my fight.
The demon lunged at me and I felt all of about half of the beast's weight in my foot. My sword met scales and it screeched, looks like I found its soft spot.
It lunged and I danced back, blocking it's claws with my sword.
A loud thump made me turn around. Another demon landed on the roof, looking like it had found it's prey.
I realised my mistake as soon as I turned around, leaving my back exposed to the green demon. It's claws embedded into my shoulder, dragging down to my mid back. I dropped to the ground, the fall making the breath wheeze out of me.
But I rolled back onto my feet raising my sword. The sun was blocked out for a split second, a soft thud following it.
A black winged angel fought the gold demon. With the gold demon occupied, I could focus on the green one.
I met each blow dispute the raging pain in my back. It swept it's tail out, meaning to get me off my feet, but I jumped.
At the last second the demon lashed out with it's claws. I parried mid air. And while I was in the air, I found that it's neck was unprotected.
I swung down with my sword, surprisingly no scales stopped the swords descent through muscle and bone.
A good old fashioned beheading. And when it went down, it stayed down.
I was running straight away, for that entry to the day care.
A boom sounded, shaking the earth. I looked up. That black winged angel stood in front of me.
And I realised he was too deep in the battle to realise I was human, or part one, at least. His onyx eyes were like orbs of darkness, staring into my soul.
He raised his sword with a feral grin. I raised mine as well, a wicked grin taking over my own lips.
He lashed out with speed a mortal wouldn't have seen, I barely parried the blow before he was attacking again.
The clash of steel rung out as I danced around him.
With each attack his eyes got clearer, but each attack was lethal, dragging the energy out of me.
I faulted. He took his chance and swung down, I squeezed my eyes shut, ready to be cleaved into two.
An ear splitting sound went through my head, the sound of sword against sword. Not my sword. Temporarily deaf, I looked up.
That white winged angel stood above me, arms shaking with the effort of keeping the black winged angel's sword from my head.
"Snap out of it, Askari!" He yelled. Askari did. Taking a step back in horror.
My shoulder throbbed with agonising pain, black dots eating at the edge of my vision.
I collapsed, vaguely aware of Askari's eyes widening as I was sucked into darkness, Page's name on my lips.
I entered a void of darkness.
