Kai's P.O.V

I was exhausted, but I wouldn't admit that out loud. Askari needed me to find out how the demons got here, and why.

Sighing, I sheathed my sword and turned around, Jay too, looked like he was about to drop dead on his feet.

"You should get some rest," I said.

Jay snorted, "Only if you do."

Sighing at his stubbornness, I started down the hall. The whole place was recked and would need rebuilding, more work to do.

As if trying to find out why M.J. was a literal ghost wasn't enough.

"You need rest," Jay muttered.

"So do you," I replied, not even glancing at him as I made my way through the house, looking for Askari.

"Kai," Jay said sternly. When I didn't reply, he put his hand on my shoulder, stopping me.

"It's okay just to stop and tell Askari to give you a break."

"I know."

"Then why haven't you?"

I released a breath, closing my eyes.

"I need work, to keep me from remembering," I shuddered as I said the words. I had always been able to tell Jay anything, my feelings for him grew as I tried to surpress them.

I couldn't have feelings for anyone, they would get in danger.

As if Jay could see me struggling, he pulled me in for a hug.

I relaxed against him as he whispered, "You are stronger then anyone I know."

"Thanks, Jay," he always had a way with words. When I pulled back, the emotion in his eyes were hard to ignore.

"Kai," he said, oh so quietly.

With our faces close together, his breath fanned my face, but I didn't mind, too caught up in his navy blue eyes.

Before I knew it, his lips were on mine, and I melted into the kiss.

It was everything I could've dreamed of -

Untill a sound made us break apart, Jay shoving me behind him as he drew his sword.

Page stood, wide eyed at us, and Jay glanced at me. I was speechless, Page seemed to like finding trouble just as much as M.J., Jay sighed.

Returning his sword, he said to Page. "How bout we don't tell anyone about this."

Page nodded, the gesture bigger then need be.

"Riiight," she said, wriggling her eyebrows as if she were trying to raise them suggestively.

"Page, I swear -"

She cut me off, "Don'th worry, Kai. I won'th tell a soul," she smiled cheekily, before running around the corner.

Jay turned around, red staining his cheeks.

"Well," he said, "that could've gone better."

I chuckled, patting his shoulder.

"Just now, you pushed me behind you, why?" The red on Jay's cheeks deepens as he looked to the ground.

"I didn't want you to get hurt," he mumbled, making me smile. A genuine smile.

His eyes softened as he have me a small smile, whispering, "You should do that more often."

"Do what?" I asked, my voice as quiet as his. My heart was thumping, as he leaned in.

"Smile, you look...handsome."

I flushed with embarrassment, but he kissed me once again, and I melted into him.

"Kai! Jay!"

We broke apart, Jay groaning something about privacy.

Charlie came around the corner, completely oblivious to what just happened.

"M.J.'s passed out, Askari needs you and Jay doing perimeter checks," he informed them.

"Alright, we'll be there in a second," Jay said.

Charlie nodded and disappeared, leaving us alone again.

"I should go and check on M.J. before I do the perimeter," I said, rubbing my face with my hand.

Jay nodded, resting a hand on my shoulder, "Don't wear yourself out too much," and with that, he left.

But not before giving me a peck on the cheek.

I sighed once more before walking down the hall.

Something was off about M.J. she found trouble with other species more then her own.

Not her own. I reminded myself.

She was part demon, I recognized it as soon as I met her, they all gave the same scent.

Once I found M.J., who was splayed on her bed, I checked her wounds. Harper had healed as much as she could, but it was draining.

Page came running in, a small knife in hand. The skill work of an angel, with the dragon symbol swirling down the handle.

"I'm guarding her," Page said, far too serious for her age.

I gave her a small smile, making her beam.

"How 'bout you stand at the door," I said.

She nodded and walked to the door, but not before saying, "I'm finding it hard to find a ship name for you and Jay," she said, "Kay, maybe?"

She winked, or attempted to, and disappeared around the corner.

Of course she would ship us.

I sat on M.J.'s bed, holding my hand over her neck.

Terror and pain lashed through me, making me gasp.

I was seeing through her eyes, feeling her emotions.

And it was pure terror as she saw the demon throw itself at Page. Hate at herself for throwing Page at the ground, only to be flooded with relief when Charlie caught her, then, utter agony as the claws sunk in -

I gasped, lurching back into my mind. M.J. was sitting up, breathing heavily before she glared at me.

"What was that?" She demanded.

"I...I don't know."

I had never done that before, usually my shadows would help heal the injury, never let me see what happened.

Face white as a ghost, I stumbled out of her room, too much was going on, too much to comprehend.

And as if he could feel it, Jay flew down the hall to me, his hands instantly going to my face, eyes scanning for injuries.

"I get that you won't tell, me," he said quietly, guilt dawning inside me, but also gratefulness, "but I need you to tell me if you are going to get hurt."

"I'm fine," I assured him, "just didn't expect that."

He gave me a long look before pressing his lips to my head and saying, "c'mon, Lynn can finish the perimeter, we are going to the library."

Thank god he knew me so well.

Holy hell!

I'm #1 Kay supporter.

They are so cute! Kai is really quiet and private, but Jay is really protective and caring! There so cute!

Anyway, hope everyone is safe!
