"How did Halo know your name?"

"Why did Halo call you brother?"

"Why are you two fighting?" Lahni cut in.

"We aren't fighting. It's called asking questions," I said.

Kai grunted in agreement as he ate something that looked like toast.

"I don't know why Halo knows my name, maybe he's being spying on us?"

"He called me brother cause it pisses me off."

"Och. Can't imagine that," I said sarcastically, he rolled his eyes.

Lahni eyed us. "What's up with you? You guys have been at each other's throats when we first got here, now your suddenly best friends?"

"First of all, I have a best friend - "

"You wound me," Kai said, mimicking my sarcasm from earlier.

"Secondly, he likes books," I shrugged.

"Who is your best friend?" Lahni asked.

"Her name is Emma and she's stuck back in the mortal realm, probably scared out of her wits that I'm dead from the demon attack."

That was a lie. Emma knew what I am. My heritage. She knew that I'm almost impossible to kill, considering she's tried a few times.

"Askari wants us," Kai said, getting out of his seat.

"I don't understand this mind link stuff," I muttered.

"You guys have your own little 'mind link,'" Kai said.

"We do?" I definitely would've known if we had.

"Yes. You glare at him, he backs off. Mind link."

I laughed at Kai, whacking his arm.

We headed to the war room, one I didn't know they had until this morning.

I didn't want it to be awkward between me and Askari.

I'm not gonna lie, I died of mortification when I realised what I looked like, barging into his room.

"Is Charlie with Page?" I asked.

Kai nodded, Lahni rolled her eyes at my protectiveness.

"Kai, patrol the west barrier," Askari said as soon as we came into the room. For a split second, he looked up, capturing my eyes with those black orbs. I knew now was not the time to talk about yesterday.

"Lahni, you patrol along the east barrier, Lynn's doing the north and I'll do the south."

"What about me? And what's going on?"

Askari threw a glance at Kai, and I knew that he was mind linking him. Glaring I crossed my arms, waiting for an answer.

Kai opened his mouth to talk, but stopped. A faint banging sound coming from somewhere. I froze, and Kai gave me a look to keep my mouth shut, no doubt telling me I just tapped into my demon hearing.

"M.J., go back to your room," he said. I was about to protest, but the look he gave me had me walking down the hall.

"What is it?" I heard Askari ask softly.

"Demons."

At that, I sprinted, my footsteps echoing through the building. Page. I had to get Page.

I threw open Charlie's door and picked Page up and ran.

"What is it?"

"Demons!" I gasped
