"So, M.J.," Askari drawled.

"What?" I replied, lying on my bed with a book in hand. Askari had knocked, and with a shouted 'enter' from me, he walked in and leaned on the threshold.

"What's your actual name?"

"Not gonna tell you."

"Why not?"

"Because I don't trust you," as blunt as it was, it was true, I had known him for three days. He didn't look hurt, as I flicked the page.

"Don't say that to Charlie, you'll crush his heart," Askari said with a chuckle.

"But that's the thing," I said, finally putting down my book, I met his black eyes, "Charlie won't be hurt, he's the General of the angel legion, you didn't give him that position for no reason."

Askari blinked, blinked because not many people would even think of that, blinked, then smiled. "I think you and Kai will be good friends." And he left.

Kai and me, friends? I let out a snort, like he even excepts friends, I let out another snort, like we could even be friends.

I shook my head, clearing my thoughts glancing back at the book before me.

~~~
"I want you to take me out in the city."
Charlie choked on his drink, Lynn glanced wide eyed at me, and Jay seemed torn between laughing at Charlie, or being shocked at me.
It was Kai who gave me a small smile, like he could understand me, but it was gone, that cold mask back up.
"The angels down there," Askari said, reminding be back to yesterday when I learned that we were indeed on a mountain above the city, "haven't seen a mortal for some time. They would be... Intrigued."
At his cringe, I could tell intrigued meant that I would not go by unseen.
"I don't care. I need to get out," I said. Page was in bed, it was dusk and I thought it would be a great time to have a look at the city.
"I can't take M.J., I'll bring attention to her," Askari said. They suddenly all looked at Kai.
"Don't you dare do your little shadow thing," Charlie warned.
"Shadow thing?" Kai said, and if I wasn't mistaken, it sounded like there was amusement in his voice.
"You know, where you hide in the shadows and-" Charlie cut himself off, glaring at Kai, "don't try and change the subject."
"I can't take her!" Kai finally said.
"I'm right here!" I grumbled.
"Why not? No one can find you, your the best person for it," Askari argued.
"I can't take her, I'll... I don't know, I'll get her killed by accident!"
Askari gave him a look of amusement, "Given your status I highly doubt that."
Kai rubbed a hand on his face. "I can't take her," He hissed, before disappearing. Not disappearing, I realised, melting into shadows.
An unexpected sound came out of my throat, making everyone look at me. I laughed. I was laughing. But I couldn't help it.
"I think we broke her," Charlie whispered to Lynn, Jay was no-where to be seen, and Askari was looking at me with some strange softness in his eyes.
"Does he hate me?" I said when I stopped laughing.
"No... I don't think so," Harper said as she walked into the room. I glanced at her. What was she doing here?
As if she read it on my face, she said, "Askari told me to come, informing me that you might be ill."
