Murphy's POV
We are well into the term now, the schools competing in the Triwizard tournament had arrived and they were all anyone was talking about, I was so happy for the weekend after a tiring week of trying my best to meet and socialize with all the new comers. I even got a chance to meet the famous Victor Krum, even with mobs of girls following him.
I got up and got ready for the day, I was wearing a knitted navy coloured dress with slightly sheer tights and my classic Mary Janes. I tied up my long wavy hair with a navy ribbon and made my way down to the great hall.
Taking a seat at the table next to Annabelle and Cherry, I begin piling my plate with bacon and eggs. Not long after Malfoy, Pansy, and their band of loyal followers come in and join us at the table, my eyes meet Dracos, he gave me a cold look. "what is his problem? I thought to myself.
"Ladies!" Pansy exclaims excitedly as they take their seats opposite us.
"So, I have been thinking, seeing as none us will be heading home for the winter break this year, we should throw a party in the common room, Slytherins only of course, I know Snape wouldn't care" she says smugly.
"I'm in" Anabelle answers.
"same here" says Cherry.
As much as I couldn't stand Pansy, I loved a good party". "sounds like fun" I say calmly.
"Can I rely on your help to organise?" Pansy asks looking at me.
"No, I trust in your capabilities to throw a common room party together" I say dryly making everyone quietly chuckle.
Pansy works out a fake smile and laugh and says "Classic Murph" she says getting up from the table. Her followers leaving with her abruptly.
We better head off too", Cherry says getting with Annabelle,
"A couple Durmstrang lads agreed to teach us some quidditch skills today", Annabelle says with a wink.
It was then that I realised Malfoy and I were alone together.
I tried not to make eye contact, in the hopes of eating alone and hurrying off to where I needed to be today, except he decides to speak, "interesting your closest friends made plans and didn't invite you" he says with a smirk.
"baffles me what you find interesting" I reply amused.
"I'm just saying, that's ought to hurt a little" he says looking smug.
Slightly confused by this interaction, I say "I don't spend Saturdays with my friends, I have things to do, and they are aware of that".
"please enlighten me" he scoffs.
"well not that it's any of your business but I like to spend my mornings with the house elves in the castles kitchen, they don't get a lot of visitors, mainly because its hidden, and they enjoy the company, after that I like to spend the rest of the day alone, studying in the library", I say slightly annoyed.
I see a fuming look appear on his face and hear him growl "why do you try so hard!".
"Excuse me?" I say defensively
"your little act is so pathetic" he replies.
"what act?" I say confused.
"This pathetic perfect selfless act you put on, cheering up worthless house elves, studying on weekends, befriending half the school" he growls. "it's so un- Slytherin" he barks at me. I go silent for a second and begin to smirk as I stare him down.
"Malfoy, I study hard, and practice every craft because I want to be the best, I befriend everyone I meet because they are the future generation of wizards that will help me get to where I need to be one day and finally I cheer up the house elves because it makes me feel good about myself" I say smugly. "you might think everything I do is pathetic and selfless, but in fact its rather ambitious and selfish, which is quite fitting for a Slytherin don't you think" I say as I wink at him. I get up from my seat and leave the great hall.
I head to the secret entrance of the kitchen, making sure no one was following or around. I walk up to the portrait of the large fruit bowl, I tickle painting of the pear, and the doorknob appeared. I walked inside, and was greeted instantly by my house elf friends, they have grown to get used to my visits and always look forward to seeing me and hearing about any funny stories going on in the school.
They shower me with baked goods as I sit with them. It made me happy being with them, I felt like I didn't have to be fun and charming I could just relax and be myself. Constantly being a social butterfly everyday was tiring, but it was necessary.
Don't get me wrong I didn't feel exhausted when I am having fun with my best friends, but I always get that flash of guilt knowing I am keeping half my life a secret from them. After my visit in the kitchen I headed off to the library, I felt like doing some reading for fun, studying can wait.
