Today being a Saturday marked exactly five days after discussing with Maryam about the scholarship. After she told her dad about it, he immediately gave her an application form which he made sure was delivered to Humaira that same day. He assured Maryam that he'll try his very best to help her out after all she's also like a daughter to him. Humaira spoke with her just yesterday and she gave her the news of her application being processed since her scholarship essay has already been submitted.

Currrently, Humaira sat near her window watching the quiet drizzle. She sadly stared at nothing in particular. She felt numb and not even the rain nor the serenity of the environment which always calmed her soul could calm her aching heart.

Do you know that feeling where they say it's like your life has come to a stand still? And you just seem lost without knowing what will happen next except for you to cling on to the rays of hope hiding behind the shadows which is Allah's promise of never burdening a soul beyond that it can bear for He tests those He loves the most? Yes that's how she was feeling right now.

Her mind drifted to yet another heated conversation between her and Ya Nabeel last five days ago. After their lunch that day, she escorted maryam back home and when she came back, she informed Ammi and Nabeel about the scholarship. Ammi was very happy as her daughter's one wish was in the way of coming true while with Nabeel on the other side, it was vice versa.

"Humaira I'm going to say this for the last time. Forget about this scholarship and even attending university if you're hell-bent on only studying this course. It's not just about the money but in the society we're in today, people will not look at you as a girl from a good backgroud immediately you study it. They'll think the worst of you even if that's not the case because journalism is made believed to be too social with little or no ethics, so how can a northern muslim girl associate herself with it? It's not that I don't want to support you but I don't want anyone to point fingers at you. There are many courses to pick from Humaira so why not choose one? But no! Since you're proving to be hard-headed, you can as well just get married to Kabir and learn the hard way, for I'm done discussing this topic!"

"You can as well just get married to Kabir and learn the hard way!"

"You can as well just get married to Kabir and learn the hard way!"

"You can as well just get married to Kabir and learn the hard way!!"

That statement kept replaying itself in her head and the way he emphasized each and every word felt like a hard blow to her already fragile heart hearing that coming from her one and only brother.

Her hero, her champion, her savior and her father figure. The man who sacrificed his needs to always provide for her including taking care of her tuition fees since she was in high school. The man who dealt with all the bullies that came her way to see she was always safe and protected. The man who filled the void of her father's absence. She knew even a hard slap in the face would have been better than that statement.

After he said all that, the living room became so silent that even a drop of a needle could be heard. He wished if words could be taken back after being said, then he would have taken back his in a heartbeat for he said it all in a fit of rage. But no he couldn't and looking at her distraught face, he knew he had to apologise and so he did. But Humaira being Humaira turned her back on him and locked herself in her room till date. She only came out when she needed food or to see her Ammi. She wallowed herself in self pity and agony, still not able to believe that her Ya Nabeel could say something as hurtful as that to her. He tried apologising so many times and yesterday after so many attempts, she finally had it in her to let bygones be bygones. But with no words spoken, she knew and he knew that even though they've sorted things out, he's hard-headed self still won't support her motion except if a miracle were to happen which she prays it does.
