"Get in the car."
As if.
I glanced back through the pouring drops, my chest tightening as I recognized the voice of the person I'd hoped not to interact with ever again. I thought this was a mutual agreement not to mess things further. Seeing him after our horrible last encounter was certainly a way to mess thing beyond believing.
"Nova." Jake snapped me out my shock and I glared the blurred figure, blinking through the drops and turning away from the car, retaking my path.
"No thanks."
But he wasn't having that.
"Nova." I keep walking, determined to ignore the aggressive storm and how the vehicle followed slowly by the road, addapting to my pace. I jumped at the sudden horn and almost slipped, my jaw clenched. Why had he to be this annoying? " Get. In. The car."
"I'm perfectly able to go back home without your help."
"For once in your life, will you stop being so defensive and just listen to me?" but I keep walking. "It's Dolan's orders." Mick's? My next step was hesitant and he noticed. "Going against his orders?"
"He wouldn't send you."
"He did the after you faint, didn't he?"
I hated that he had to remind me of it. That he had to remind me of how I had to rely on him and accept that awful road trip that only lead us to some cruel joke for him.
Would he keep reminding me that to humiliate me?
And why would Jake accept?
Well, Mick was more of his boss than mine, so it made sense that he wouldn't fight a direct order. And Mick knew I didn't have a vehicle of my own, so him being the sweetheart he is, it would make sense he asked him to drive me again since it was storming this bad.
But why Jake?
I wanted to ignore him, to keep going and forget everything related to Jake freaking Tucker ever again. But the water was now flowing like a river on the sides of the road, ankle high, and I shivered. There was still a long way home in these conditions. I couldn't see three feet from me now, everything was a wall of aggressive drops. It felt almost like mist. With the car's light at least you could see a bit pass that.
What were the chance of someone -anyone- else showing up now and saving me from this awkward forced moment?
"Stop wasting time and get in already." he scoffed and I glared back full force, hating this situation. The clothes sticking to my body and the drenched strands glued to the sides of my face. Another thunder shattered the air and I felt the rain pouring harder if possible.
My arms trembled for the force I was using trying to control myself and not lose my cool. What was I to do? It wasn't like I was left with a lot of options here.
Clenching my teeth I finally reached for the door and pushed against the wind's restrain to open it. "Fine." I gritted out, not believing this was happening. Not after the last time I'd seen him. Really Mick? Was this necessary?
I slid in, looking straight out the front window not wanting to face him at all, really hesitant and cursing all the gods above for forcing this. Just having him this close felt suffocating.
