The morning had started out great, Ophelia Montgomery had woken up early, had a short but filling breakfast and gotten ready in record time before she headed to Seattle Grace Hospital, on the ride there her mind reeled back to her sister and brother, a neonatal Surgeon and a neurologist respectively, she knew that she should have told them where she was going but to be honest, she didn't want either of them to meddle with her life.
Upon arriving at the hospital, with more than enough time to waste, she walked inside, feeling a wave of proudness and fulfillment bloom inside her chest, she had worked incredibly hard to get where she was, she was sure that she was the youngest in her year of interns, being on 22, but she didn't let that fase her.
"You know I nearly mistook you for your sister." a familiar voice commented soon after she walked into the hospital, making her turn her head to the person, cringing slightly in fear of who it might be who had spoken. To her relief it was only Dr. Webber, or rather Chief Webber as she would call him from now on.
Ophelia knew him because of her older sister and her husband, "Well I'm sorry to disappoint you Richard." she replied with a smile, allowing relief to wash over her as it was no one else, "I wish I was the double-certified Montgomery." her joke came off her lips airly and made Richard Webber smile slightly in return.
"Well it's a pleasant surprise, did you come visit me?" he teased, looking at her, assessing her, seeing how much she'd grown since the last time he saw her, she had been 10, or perhaps 13, the youngest of the Forbes Montgomery trio, an honest laugh tumbled through her lips while she shook her head slightly, "As much as I may love you and have missed you Richard, I'm not here to visit you."
The older man frowned slightly at her words and pursed his lips in confusion, prompting the youngest Montgomery to gently place a hand on his shoulder and tease "I'm an intern here, I'm assigned to," she halted for a minute, thinking back on the name that she had been given was going to be her attending resident.
"To someone nicknamed the Nazi." she finished, not being able to remember the attending's proper name, an excited gasp escaped the Chief, startling the redhead young adult before him, making her jump back and removed her hand as if she had been burned, "Bailey, Miranda Bailey." he told her, excitement clear on his face.
Anyone around them could see that Ophelia was starting to get uncomfortable with the Chief's excitement, "I can introduce you to her, put in a good word," The chief began, although he would never actually do it, he was merely teasing her, not seeing before him the 22 year old, but instead the young teen he'd last seen.
Ophelia's green eyes widened like saucers and she quickly stepped forward hands open and shaking sideways, disagreeing with and denying his offer, although she quickly stopped upon realizing that they, or rather, she had attracted stray eyes, causing her cheeks to flame slightly.
"Richard, no." she said in a final tone before walking away, praying to God that he would not call her back, something that Chief Richard Webber thankfully did not.
Finding the rest of the interns that would be starting with her was easy enough, she only had to keep an eye out for a group of people that looked beyond nervous and ready to pass out at any given second. She knew, or rather she visually knew, some of the interns there and for that she had the mixer to thank.
Not too long after she had arrived, Richard walked into the corridor in which they were all gathered, sending a small smile Ophelia's way before he had all of the interns gather around him, "Each of you comes here hopeful. Wanting in on the game. A month ago you were in med school being taught by doctors. Today, you are the doctors." He began as a blonde intern slipping in late at the back of the corridor.
"The seven years you spend here as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Look around you. Say hello to your competition. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five of you will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play? That's up to you." he finished once he let the interns inside the O.R. allowing them to have a glimpse into their possible near future.
