The group of interns followed their attending all the way to the roof, none of them knowing anything about the incoming patient, but all anxiously waiting for information, watching as the helicopter slowly descended onto the platform so that they could rush forward, "What've we got?" Bailey questions the Paramedic as the patient is placed on the stretcher, her voice curt and bossy "Katie Bryce, fifteen-year-old female, new-onset seizures, intermittent for the past week, ID lost en route, started grand mal seizing as we descended."
Bailey nodded and allowed her interns to push the patient into the hospital, directing them to the room while making sure that their patient didn't have any encounter with a wall. Once inside the room, nurses flood the room ready to help the interns. "All right, get her on her side, Izzie, ten milligrams Diazepam," Bailey orders one of the blonde interns, quickly jumping to the other and correcting her "No, no, the white lead is on the right, righty whitey, smoke over fire," turning to the only man in the group and telling him "A large bore I.V. don't let the blood haemolyse, let's go!"
Izzie injects the patient that makes her stop seizing, allowing them all to let out a breath of relief "I heard we got a wet fish on dry land?" a tall, dark-skinned man claims as he walks into the room, the colour of his scrubs telling the interns that he was another doctor. "Absolutely Dr. Burke." Bailey replied, grabbing the chart that he handed her, "Dr. Bailey, let's shotgun her." he informed the resident, clapping his hands as he let his eyes wander, catching the faces of Dr. Bailey's new interns.
"That means every test in the book, CT, CBC, chem. seven, tux screen," The resident informs her new students, "Cristina, you're on labs, George, patient workups, Meredith, get Katie for a CT, Ophelia you're coming with me, she's your responsibility now." silence surrounds them, as well as panic fills the redhead, her light brown eyes widening considerably. Izzie having not been called frowned, her eyes flashing to the ginger's before she questioned "Wait, what about me?"
Bailey looked at her, a million tasks flashing through her mind before she replied "You - honey, you get to do rectal exams." everyone smiled slightly while Lia shyed away from the group and followed Bailey out of the room, allowing the silence to suffocate her until they reached the end of the hall. Bailey hummed a small tune under her breath, something that was not helping Lia's anxiousness to know why she had not been given any tasks like her fellow interns.
Her mouth opened and closed a couple of times, a million ways of asking the question politely sitting at the tip of her tongue, but none were actually uttered as she merely closed her mouth and looked down at her feet. Although she didn't utter it, this impressed Bailey who was used to interns questioning every single little detail about her decisions, and it wasn't like she didn't know who she and Meredith were, she was fully away that they were the daughters of The Captain Montgomery and Ellis Grey respectively.
They were both Medically inbred and most likely medically gifted, but unlike Meredith, Lia seemed more collected, she held back her questions and arguments, something that was both a blessing and a tiny curse, however that moment it was a blessing.
The elevator that they had been waiting for dinged open and both women entered it, there was no one else in the elevator, another thing that added to Lia's unsettled mind, her thumbs had stared to play with each other and she sucked her bottom lip between her teeth and nibbled on it, her eyes never leaving her trainers.
"If you keep bitting that lip you're going to bust it open." Bailey said out of the blue, startling the redheaded intern out of her skin, her cheeks flushing dark as she released her lip, muttering a quiet "Sorry." as she forced her eyes shut in fear. A small scoff left Bailey's lips as she turned around to face the redhead, a stern look etched on her tired features, she wondered if the youngest of the Forbes Montgomery children was up for the bar that had been set for her.
"I'm scrubbing in on a surgery this morning," the resident started, prompting the intern to open her eyes and look at her, the kicked puppy look that Bailey was expecting to see nowhere in sight, nor was the gleam of piqued interest in her eyes, something that intrigued Bailey to a certain level. "I want you to answer all of my pages until it's done. I'll come and find you once it's over."
An almost look of relief flashed across Lia's face, indicating that she was more than happy to answer the pages while Bailey was in surgery, "Unless it's a 911, I don't want to be paged by you understood." Lia nodded quickly as the doors opened, before them a nurse's station, the nurse's station in the operation ward.
"Nancy," Bailey greeted as she turned around, making the nurse at the station look up at her and smile in greeting, "Please communicate to the other stations that any page that's for me while I'm in surgery are to be directed to Ophelia." the nurse nodded and grabbed the phone, "Remember I don't want no dead patients, no false 911's. I'm counting on you Montgomery." Bailey said as she stepped out of the elevator, allowing the doors to close behind her leaving the redheaded intern in there to let a huge breath escape her lips.
