~ CHAPTER 03~

DIG IN Jane says, and I smile, and pick up the knife and fork that is placed in front of me. I make a small slice in the omelette and gather all of the mixins bringing my fork to my mouth. I almost moan it is so good
"How is it dear" Jane then says to me
"It's delicious," I say covering my mouth
"Don't lie" Julian says smirking, "It's horrible" he adds and I smile looking a Jane who also smiles and lightly shoves her husband kissing him on the cheek
"Don't eat it then" Jane says teasing him
"Nah I'm good" he replies and I smile, I hope one day I am able to have a relationship like this, my phone dings in my pocket so I pull it out and it's a message from my mother
- Hey Tori, Surgery is running late, I'll be late to pick Violet up, Sorry hun xo
"Oh no," I say
"What's wrong," Jane says
"My mom's surgery is running late, she won't be able to get Violet for a while... I'm sorry"
"No don't be sorry!" Julian says
"It's alright Tori, Violet can come with us, the girls at the front will love her"
"Are you sure?" I ask "I can see if one of my brothers can take her"
"Nonsense It's okay, eat your breakfast," she says and I smile continuing to eat
"So what's going on today?" Jane asks, and I slide the diary out of my purse
"You have a quiet day today," I say
"Ah finally, we've had a big couple of days this week," she says
"Busy time of year" Julian replies
"You have a meeting at 10:30 with a new client, then straight after a meeting with James Bowen at noon, a board meeting at 2, and then another meeting with finance at 4, then the rest of the day is free to catch up on any other work, we don't have court until next week," I say
"Good good, a calm day," she says
After we finish eating I help clean up breakfast, before Jane and Julian retreat to their room to get ready for the day whilst I sit on the couch snuggling my baby.
Once they are ready I follow them in my car to the Shepherds Law & Co office. When we get there I set Jane up for her meeting and we go through some files. When her client arrives I head around to reception with Violet
I hand her to Holly, she's a receptionist and close friend of mine and Scarlett's, she has been really supportive and helpful to me and Violet. When Holly heads on her 30-minute-break she hands her to a new receptionist.
"Careful of her neck," I say to a Lindsay
"Is this okay?" she asks positioning Violet's head better
"Yes that's good" I reply watching her like a hawk
"It's okay, I'm not going to drop her," she says laughing and I fake a laugh too, but my anxiety is so high I can't think straight.
My mum anxiety is real, any small move she makes and she can hurt my baby. I look at her for a second time before I move my chair closer towards her, and I open my laptop. I scan through the files I need before I find what I need.
I let Lindsay hold the baby for a little longer before Jane comes out of her office having just finished with her client and she takes Violet for some snuggles.
Not long after my phone rings at my desk so I pick it up and balance it between my ear and shoulder continuing to sign the documents in front of me
"Office of Jane Shepherd, Shepherds Law & Co: Victoria Speaking," I say instantly
"Hi Tori, we have a Katherine Bell here for you" Katherine is my mum
"Yeah send her up," I say and I place the phone down, and I push my chair back, I knock on Jane's door
"Come in," she says and I open the door where she is holding Violet at her desk, they have a baby show on and Jane is singing to her
"Mums here," I say
"Oh Violet Jane, it's time for you to go" she sings songs and I walk over to pick her up "I'm going to miss you, yes I am" she then says handing the baby over. I snuggle her to my chest and I breathe her baby scent in
"Knock knock," my mum says walking through the door
"Good morning Katy," Jane says and walks up to hug her, they embrace for a moment before I walk over to my mum
"Hey mama," I say
"Hi baby" she replies looking down at Violet
"Hi pretty girl," she says to Violet and I hand her over.
Whilst my mum and Jane talk I grab my car keys, Violet's car seat and my baby bag, I walk back into the office and drop the baby bag at my feet. I then take Violet back and kiss her nose before I strap her into the car seat. I hand my car keys over to my mum, and she hands me hers.
The other part of Violet's car seat stays in my car and we just swap so we aren't constantly changing the baby seat pieces over and over. So mum will take my car home, and once Scarlett is done I will drive us both home.
"I'm going to miss you, baby," I say strapping her in, I lay a thin blanket over her and double-check she is strapped in properly before I hand the baby bag to my mum, and she picks up the car seat
"What time will you be home?" she asks
"5 I think"
"Same as Scarlett?"
"Yeah that's the time she finishes," I say
"I'll make sure she leaves at 5," Jane says and I smile
"I have enough milk pumped, and there are extra diapers in her closet," I say to her "If you have any problems..."
"I'll call," she says
"Perfect" I reply "Thank you mum," I say and I hug her before she leaves the office. I watch her through the window, of Janes office, she leaves the office, straps Violet in before she takes off in the opposite direction taking a little piece of my heart with her, I turn to Jane who is on her couch
"Ah I have done nothing today," she says flipping through her diary
"I'm sorry she's a little distraction"
"No no, she's a perfect distraction" Jane replies
"I know sometimes I can't believe she is mine," I say
"You are a good mother Tori" she replies
"Thank you," I say
"Now, when is my next appointment?" she asks
